Locking wheel nut stuck
« on: 21 October 2020, 09:37 »
Hi all,

I took my car in for some routine work the other week and the independant garage said they couldn't get the wheel off because the locking wheel nut key had gone smooth.  I ordered the correct new one, and I tried it myself with a wheel brace and that went smooth as well.

I took it back to the garage who tried again, but they said whoever put the wheel on did it so tight they can't get them off, and it would be a major problem getting them off.

Anyone got any ideas?  Back to the dealership, would they be able to help?

Thanks

Cheers, I did not know such a service existed!

I live in Manchester, but there appears to a similar type of service up here in the North

Thanks again.

Locking wheel nut removal tool and a long breaker bar - just basic garage work isn't it?

You'd think so, but I was watching them struggle with it this morning.

I did try it with a new locking key and a wheel brace, but I rounded off the new key
At that point I thought I'd leave it to the professionals.

There are lots of different techniques you can try but you might find you need to try a few different ones, break a lot of tools and maybe mark your alloys in the process. I'd pay someone else for the aggro and if they damage your wheel then they can pay for it...
