Clubsport ED40 Manual Clutch Issue
« on: 07 October 2020, 21:30 »
Hi everyone

I have experienced a weird issue when driving my CS spiritedly. Occasionally as I upshift (at full throttle and close to redline) the clutch will begin to slip slightly when engaging next gear and going on the throttle again. This happens if I haven't released the clutch pedal fully as I begin to press the throttle down the slightest, the slip will result in the engine being around 200rpm over what it should be, even though the clutch pedal thereafter is fully disengaged and as I am on the throttle fully.
I have not experienced any clutch slip when applying throttle on higher gears and low rpms which makes me wonder why this happens? Has anyone experienced anything similar?
However, if I am more patient with the throttle it will not do it. It is annoying as you sometimes will wait longer than you would wish to do when driving quickly.

Fully stock engine and gearbox, 38k km (23k miles)

Manual cars (perhaps DSG too?) are fitted with a clutch delay valve, which is a restrictor in the hydraulic clutch line slowing the clutch engagement action. I suspect this is the cause of your issue especially if the problem doesn’t occur if you delay applying the throttle pedal and if the clutch doesn’t slip in high gears at low revs with full throttle. Simple job to remove - search YouTube.

Will this prevent it from slipping through the whole gear, as it won’t stop slipping until I am off the throttle? Having said that, I usually let off a second or two after I notice it slipping.

What Paul said.

I've had the same issue with my 2014 PP. If I'm quick enough/ slightly out of sync, you can get on the throttle before the delay valve has let the clutch fully engage. Bad times, bad smells.

And if you keep your foot in, it'll certainly keep slipping until you let off.
