Rear Drivers side door leaking
« on: 05 October 2020, 13:10 »
In a similar vein to 'sootchucker' I have noticed water gathering on the inside plastic of the rear door. Admittedly it was after yesterdays really heavy rain and once before that I dismissed all the same they should not leak, is it a warranty job or a simple fix?
I have had a quick search and cannot find a door seal thread, I did see a brief mention of dry silicone on the felt seal, is that it?.. So thoughts anyone.

Inside plastic of the rear door? The plastic trim on the sill in the door opening or somewhere on the actual plastic door card itself?

Leaking speaker seals are a known problem on the mk7 and mk7.5 Golf. If you have a speaker seal that’s failed, then water could find its way onto the plastic door sill trim on the inside of the car and then into the footwell, rather than draining out of the door cavity through the drainage holes and onto the ground outside the car.

If you google ‘vw golf leaking speaker seals’ you’ll find it’s not uncommon.

Hi SRGTD, it is collecting on the plastic trim on the sill in the door opening, so appears to be getting past the seal somehow.

Speaker seal as SR says seems to be a common issue. If I were you I'd take it in since it's under warranty.

Thanks SR & Watts, will do as it is due its last service and a couple of faults to be looked at including the seat lumbar support deteriorating in the next month or so.

If you’ve not already done so, I’d suggest checking the carpet in the driver’s side footwells - front and back - for dampness in case it’s been happening for a while and you may have only just noticed it. Even if water’s not getting past the speaker seal in the driver’s door, any water that might have leaked into the rear footwell over time could’ve run forward into the driver’s footwell too. If the carpet feels dry, there’s a chance the sound deadening material under the carpet may be damp, so worth checking there as well if you’re able to.
