When Do You Change Your Bridgestone Originals
« on: 05 August 2020, 16:56 »
I have between 3 and 4 mm left all round after 12,000 miles ( rotated after 8,000).

I’m bored today so looking at replacements...either PS4s or Goodyear Eagle AS 5s.

I know the car will feel much better on either but I’m only doing around 500 miles a month just now, so could prob squeeze another few months and stay legal, if not perfect in the wet.

How soon have others replaced their lovely Bridgestones????

Assuming the 4mm tyres are on the front I'd run them until autumn when they'll be around 3mm then change them.

Go out and do some smokey burnouts and reverse gear doughnuts, then get some nice new tyres tomorrow.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I found the bridgestones got very noisy when they wear down.

I'm not sure if your feeling this too, however when I changed them (to MPSS) that was instantly the biggest change no more tyre noise and improved grip of course.

However I'm cheap, so if I know they still have some life I would carry on and change them before winter and the bad weather comes but in the mean time look out for good deals...

Wear markers....I am tight.

But as said they get so noisy the lower they get.

Watts wins the common sense prize, dubber Simon wins the fun prize and I’ll offer up my personal middle ground solution.

I’m quite demanding and also can be impatient with certain things.
4mm all round throws up a perfect scenario to me.
Bugger suffering those noisy monstrosities any longer than absolutely necessary.
Order in the new Michelins now (their usual cashback offer is on) then shove the Bridgestones on Facebook marketplace or gumtree and probably get at least £20 a corner back on them as they’re a popular size.

You then get your remaining wear paid for and can actually start enjoying your tyres rather than suffering them.

Chop chop, get to it!

Thanks for these words of wisdom.

I suspect one day soon I will just say “enough prevarication”....or words to that effect and just do it.

That’s the usual drill when I get the itch to change the whole car!!!

Just change the car then for one with new tyres
