Is it going to fit?
« on: 05 August 2020, 09:32 »
I need to transport two wardrobe doors to the local recycling center. They are 77cm x 224cm.

Im thinking push the front passenger seat all the way forward, recline it back as far as possible and remove the headrest (does it actually come out?) Obviously rear seats folded down.

Then angle the doors about 45 degrees so they lean on the drivers seat left shoulder area and against the lower dashboard area at the front. Using towells/ bed sheets to pack in space to make them secure. Its only a 2 mile journey and all 30mph roads to the center.

Any thoughts on if they will fit/ a better way of doing this?

Cut the doors into smaller, more manageable sized pieces. Then they’ll fit for sure .

I wish I could, they are some kind of bonded plastic with metal inside, I haven't got anything that is strong enough to go through them unfortunately I've already ruined an electric saw blade trying

Get your local council to come and pick them up. Worth it for the small charge.

Good suggestion, its a minimum charge of £60 from my local council though, so not my first choice.

Well there is only one way to find out if they fit or not, will just have to give it a go and see

It'll be a squeeze, I'd say probably won't fit.

I just bought some IKEA stuff for the Little 'uns bedroom. Boxes for the wardrobe were about 212cm long and that was a tight squeeze in an A4 Avant with me having my drivers seat about 6" further forward than it should be and the passenger seat at full height/forward tilt and as far forward on the rails as possible.

I've had a few 2.4m lengths of wood in my Golf R, protruding deep into the front passenger footwell.

Smash (hammer) or bend those wardrobe doors if they're a plastic skinned metal frame.

If it's only 2 miles, just have them sticking out of the tailgate, maybe with the tailgate bungied down onto them.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

£60 !! Do you have issues with fly tipping wherever you are? In Sunderland I think it's £10 for up to 6 items.

Down south, about as South as you can get. In our countries eyes that justifies everything being 500% more expensive
