I put my number plate on with a frame called a Denzofit which is a very thin surround popular in Germany. I bought it on Amazon but they haven’t had them on sale for a while. It mounted into two of the VW holes and the number plate clips into it secured by 10 plastic clips that are part of the surround. Plates are a doddle to swop into or out of the holder, when you figure it out. The surround is flat but I think it is close enough to the shape of the bumper that it looks fine.

I've actually got two Wolsberg number plate holders from when I had my Mk5 and the holes in the boot lid were pre drilled and plugged. I might see what that looks like.

A standard plate will cover all the holes that are left but as you say if putting same plate back on may as well put standard fitting back 👍

Generally only reason to remove the plate holder is when going to a smaller plate etc.

Plus just thought that due to the slight curvature of the bumper (I don't think it's a nicely flat surface) the plate won't sit flush which means more likelihood of it falling off after time. I removed my plate holder off the 3er but only because went short plate and I'm using a removable mounting bracket so when the plate is removed it look cleaner for shows etc.
Cheers, I did wonder about the shape of the front bumper and I'm definitely putting a standard size plate back on.

Take the holder off and have some metal pressed plates made and stick them on. They look so much better than the cheap dealer plates

I've had some new plates done by the detailer so just sticking them back on. Might change plates at a later date.
