Edition 40 newbie

Hi all
New on here.
Got myself a nice 2016 Clubsport Editon 40 about 2 months ago.Iam just starting to get to know it.
Overall a great car love the engine handling and sheer quality of it.I got a pure white one.Never had a white car before but finding it very practical.
Weaknesses?just 2 areas I feel can be improved on....
1.Its too quiet!!! That's an easy one to solve and after much deliberation ordered a BCS powervalve cat back from the guys in St Helen's that should sort it...just 3 weeks to wait.
2.On the roads ( I think they count as roads?) here in Halifax the car on 19s without DCC is very harsh and fidgety great on the smooth stuff we just dont have much of that round here!My perfect spec would have been 18s with DCC but that proved impossible.Bought mine on mileage 5000 and condition and was not going to compromise that for wheel sizes.
So 2 solutions.
Already fitted a set of Ohlins road and track.Great upgrade and really makes one hello of a difference.Bit pricey but having had them on 10 days I feel worth it.
Found a set of Belvedere 18s so they are on the way.Will ditch the 19 Brescias.
That's it for now...which sounds ominous for my wallet!
Welcome any thoughts folk might have on my mods?

I very nearly bought an ED40, but didn't, so cannot help, but congrats on what I think is an excellent car. I should think the 18's will be much better, I would have done the same had I bought one and had it had 19's. Comfort aside, they are the best looking wheel IMO.

Great choice of car and your planned mods sound very good. I run a non DCC car on 18s and find it very compliant, not sure how heavy the Brescias are but the 18s are super light and this definitely help the suspension and road manners but it would be great to hear your view in detail once they are on the car.

A summary of the Ohlins compared to stock would be good to read too. If you have any questions more than happy to share my view.

I'm from Halifax as well and I didn't really notice any differences at all between 18s and 19s wheels. on Previous GTI I was on 18s now GTi PP is on Brescias as well and the ride is exactly the same if not better

It’s not the size that improves the ride and suspension compliance, it’s the weight, the Clubsport 18s are forged and very light. Not sure weights of the standard 18s or optional 19s but I heard they are around 5kg heavier per wheel and that’s what makes the difference.

Paul 70 asked for a comparison of stock to Ohlins.Iam no suspension expert but can give some subjects thoughts.
On stock I had a problem on some of our rougher roads.Very crashy and fidgety spending more time driving around imperfections than driving if you know what I mean!! Stock at higher speeds on better surfaces was excellent and I did think a change would improve that aspect much....WRONG!
Had the Ohlins fitted at Mick Gardner racing in Barnsley good guys who know their stuff.The damper have a range of 20 clicks of adjustment 1 being hardest 20 softest.Set up as Ohlins fast road spec 12 front and 14 back.Immediate big difference on poor surfaces.....its not a magic carpet ride (didn't want that) but it's much more compliant and nice to drive.At speed on better roads....wow.....almost a different car.Totally nailed front end just hunt apexes without understeer at my speeds anyway! But it's the compliance that makes the difference it doesn't bounce on imperfections just sort of smooths them and feels as if the wheels are nailed to the road.
So seems you get comfort and better handling.Obviously started playing with the settings be rude not to!Have gone up to 14 front and 17 back.Noticable improvement in comfort little difference at speed maybe a little more body roll not sure yet?
Will leave alone now as my 18 ins Belevederes are due soon and need a constant setting to see what effect they have?Cant wait to find out?

I guess its really personal, but of the years I have spent here, I've never heard anyone say a Mk7x GTI had crashy ride, not even with 19's and no DCC.

I've heard people say that various things they do make it even better, but never heard anyone say it was terrible to start with.... unlike Audis.
