Mk7.5 facelift exhaust??
« on: 23 June 2020, 20:10 »
Hello everyone. I own a mk7.5 GTI , my father owns a Mk7.5 GTI with performance pack. From all the reading ive done, aside from the limited slip diff, the red badges and bigger brakes, the performance pack doesn’t have any other mechanical changes To the normal GTI. For some reason, my fathers Car Sounds amazing compared to my mine from the Outside. As far as I can tell underneath the car the vehicles are the same. I also assumed someone has done a res delete on his before he has bought it, again I was wrong. Can anyone allude to why his performance pack car sounds 10x better than my non PP version. There is also evidence of this on YouTube if you compare PP videos to standard GTI videos. Cheers

Different exhaust. The 2 sound completely different, I've had both Mk7.5s.

I did a quick video of both cars - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJCRKZV-7Ho

Then I fitted a res delete to the Performance one and it sounded even better!!

 The Performance Pack sounds so much better. What it lacks in DSG farts it definitely makes up for in a better overall sound.

If insurance wasn't an issue I'd have that res delete off you

It's not a performance mod, would they even know if they looked at the car? Just part of the standard exhaust

From all the reading ive done, aside from the limited slip diff, the red badges and bigger brakes, the performance pack doesn’t have any other mechanical changes To the normal GTI.

According to Autocar Magazine, there are changes........

"Only 15bhp? The engine’s had a simple software reflash, then?
Actually it’s more technically involved than that. The developments may look iterative on paper, but they set the scene for further power and efficiency advancements in coming models.

With that in mind it’s a bigger job than you’d imagine, with the complete removal of the indirect (or port) fuel-injection system, engineers instead managing the same job with redesigned direct-injection nozzles and a new fuel pump to cope with the extra loads required to hit emissions and fuel economy targets.

New pistons have also been introduced and a turbocharger with different flow characteristics complete the under-bonnet engineering revisions
."

Sadly sold, Octavia VRS245 Estate, Audi A3 1.5TFSI S Line Black Edition, Polo GTi 1.8, Audi TT Roadster, Golf Mk7 GTD etc.
Daughter has 2019 Polo 2.0GTi DSG. We love VAG !

Not all those changes are necessarily for the good from an ownership perspective; utilisation of dual injection on pre-WLTP GTI’s helped prevent carbon build up on the intake valves. With VW reverting back to direct injection, carbon build up could become an issue for owners who keep their cars longer term (they may experience rough idling, poorer running and poorer fuel economy as the miles are clocked up), and it may be necessary to have an engine decoke.

In the grand scheme of things though, an engine decoke is probably be less than the cost of a cam belt change on a mk7 mk7.5 GTD.

That sounds more like the mk7 to mk7.5 changes to me rather than gti to gti performance...

Sootchucker’s mk7.5 GTI 230ps non performance car has dual injection (Post #14 in the thread at the link below), so the deletion of dual injection wasn’t a mk7 to mk7.5 change - at least not for the non performance GTI.

7.5 GTI non PP retainEd dual injection
7.5 GTI PP lost dual injection
7.5 R lost dual injection

I have the photos somewhere to show the difference between the GTI’s

Carbon build up is an issue on these, the Americans regularly post photos of cars on 70k that need cleaning
