Paint issue?
« on: 08 April 2020, 21:04 »
After cleaning the car yesterday I noticed that where the rear bootlid badge moves on opening there is wear on the badge itself see pic below

On further inspection I found a paint flaw that rubs on the badge each time it opens. This was very slightly soft but set if that makes any sense. See these pics

My question is could this paint flaw be possible from the factory or does it signal that there was paint work done on the panel since?

That looks terrible!

I wouldn't expect to see that from factory, I suspect some repair work has been done poorly.

No from the factory, my December 2016 has the same issue. It's painted and lacquered but it's got excess metal snots on the aperture. Luckily mine doesn't catch on the badge. When I asked at the body shop I use which is VW approved they said the entire boot lid would need respraying so I just left it.

OK so you're saying yours came from the factory with that issue? Had all checks carried out on mine for reported damage /accidents etc but you never know regarding small damage not reported.
I had a thorough look around the body this evening and couldn't see anything else but the quality of this just had me a bit uneasy. Still plan to have a professional look at it when this covid situation eases just to be sure.

Cheers, to be honest the current situation puts things into perspective so this doesn't bother me as much as it once would{maybe I'm getting old} & I'm sure the dealer will sort something. Just so long as its not covering up anything more serious. 😎

I had mine all checked by the approved body shop and they said it wasn't from damage. Just looks like a factory fault, it's painted and lacquered and no signs of anything untoward.

I cannot tell that well on this stupid screen but maybe its just excess seam sealer. If it is you could simply trim it with a scalpel.
