Mine was a factory order on 24th of January and I picked it up from the dealer 20th of March.

From at sea it took, overnight at sea, 1 day at the distribution centre at Thorne, Donny and next day it was at the dealer.

To be fair, even without a global pandemic that has shut everything down for 3 months, both of my Mk7's took neigh on 6 months to come.

If anything I'd actually go as far as to say its possibly enough to make me think about anything other than VAG next time.

I don't understand how no other OEM works like that, including ones which build cars in Japan and ship them to the UK.

Some manufacturers (including Seat within VAG) have moved away from building cars to the customer’s ‘personalised’ spec. In many instances for a particular trim level, the only option is colour choice, which must mean a less complex and more efficient build / production process and shorter lead times than we see with VW.

Built to order cars must add to the timescales from the time of order to delivery of the car to the customer, although the likes of BMW seem to be able to build cars to customers individual spec in much less time than VW can.
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

your dealer must have hijacked another existing build slot by the sounds of it. My order went in 4th January and even that was a hijacked existing order.

6 to 8 weeks for a factory order BMW. I know it's been said many times on here and we all know it but the information coming out of VW is just abysmal. They can't even tell me what vehicle carriers are used. Said it was the port who allocate ship slots and nothing to do with VW. They must think people are stupid and to be honest we probably are for buying VW's over and over again

It was a BMW this time though not a VW!

If they can do it why cant VW?

If it's not here by then end of this month it's being cancelled.

Are you building any equity in your current car Chris, or did they just tie themselves to promising your cost to cgange woukdn't increase? Given the current climate, your current car may have actually appreciated if you were to sell independently.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I'm surprised that VW hasn't switched to only a few option "packs" to minimise all the WLTP permutations that need testing, force people to buy a £1500 pack when they only wanted 3 of the 4 things in the pack that would've cost £1200 bought individually, and to simplify the menu for production line streamlining and more predictable parts requirements.

they worked out a deal on a suspected delivery date and gave me a trade in based on that. I've since made two further payments so the extra will be added into the deal I suppose. Trade in price is fixed in but was specifically asked not to sell the car privately presumably so they slap 2k onto the trade in price

Whilst it’s really nice having a new car, I find the whole process really stressful especially with VW. It should be a really enjoyable experience but sadly, it rarely is.
