The AID (digital dash) was hated by most when it came out, but I've yet to hear anyone with it saying that functionally its a huge leap forward - even if it doesn't look like a victorian time piece from Sherlock Holmes anymore.

I think probably the next digital step in the Mk8 will actually turn out the same.

My week 12 TCR has been built and just waiting to be shipped. UK golfs are built at Wolfsburg.

Excellent news, nearly there!

I have just crept to 4000 miles as been able to get out and about more recently, always loved to drive, but getting the TCR moving down some nice A and B roads that know has been good therapy.

However its not the worst think that your car has sat on other side of the channel as my expected mileage about now would be 6000 -7000 miles, and its been sitting duck for target practice by the many birds that are so active this time of year (live in an area with lots of trees, hard to avoid them when park) - The TCR is for driving so you would have found it more frustrating to having it, but only really being able to look at it out of the window.

4000 miles in, the Akrapovic is making some nice noises, it's lost that early days stiffness and is really light and responsive and definitely the favourite of all cars driven, its a joy to drive, has all the day to day capability, but has a really nice playful side with the responsiveness, power and lightness (in relation to the R)

The stealthy grey/black and additional trim has you walking up to it with admiration, get so many looks when out and about.

Few of us shared our TCR experiences and looking forward to you sharing in yours soon :)

But its my next step I think in the future

My observation was based on coming from a MK 7 R so there is difference in the completely planted and solid nature of that drive the light more engaging drive of the TCR

So being a GTI already doubt the difference is as tangible it would just be the MK 7 > MK 7.5 add on and some extra poke. The MK 7 GTI is a great car there has just been some evolution in a few areas but certainly no chasm, when cruising a long for example the MK 7 and MK 7.5/TCR would not behave much differently if at all - consummate comfortable mile eater.

So I am appreciating the evolutionary aspects and more so being the run out as VW chucked the TCR bucket at it and the additional GTI engagement due to the weight loss and FWD

My move was from A3 Quattro to GTD to R so skipped on the GTI but glad to have scratched that itch including the Iconic name (nobody knows or cares what an R is unless in the know) and genuinely feel saved the best till last.

Thats was me, but maybe less so on the R as think for example the Audi S3 dials were much much nicer and where the R were just ok. So it was always give me a really well engineered dial cluster

But totally converted though will caveat that slightly as having again seen the Audi, do think theirs are slicker, especially the additional cost option.

Do not play with mine, map set to center with speed and gears set central to the rev and speed dials, - very clear, with everything need in clear view without distraction to the road

Very rarely use the touchscreen of media unit on move, it is dsitracting and any time have invariably brush wrong option - not really an issue as there is still knobs and switches for the mainly used items - be interesting how folk get on with the MK 8 touchless environment when they are out there and have some heavy real world usage.

I wondered from your posts if you were hinting at something and might have one in the pipeline.

A great time to buy one right now if you were to though, a big choice of low mileage sub-one year old cars sat on dealer forecourts.

I can echo what Hertsman says as regards from moving to a TCR from an R, and add that the TCR is significantly different enough to drive as compared to a 230PS MK7 PP.
The engine feels much more peppy and eager to go in the TCR, with a different soundtrack from the exhaust. I see a grey 20 plate locally quite often and there’s quite a difference between the original (steel) TCR exhaust and the Akra. The former sounds like a distant WW2 fighter plane at times and the titanium system has more of a rasp.
There are loads of other significant detail differences too, enough to make it feel a different beast, but as Hertsman says, still refined and Golf like when just cruising around.
The phrase “value for money” might not apply to a TCR but these things are bought for other reasons.

Digital dash is different to digital HVAC and other functions, which a driver will intuitively touch without looking at. Impossible to do when it’s touch screen. AID replaced something that the driver merely looked at, so it was an easy transition.

Compared with a new MK8 they could be. I'm glad I changed mine but do miss a manual. The DSG seems to me a halfway point between a manual and a proper auto, neither one nor the other. More relaxing at times and in fairness in S it does get going but it is a faff, now a manual TCR, that would've been something
