yeah definitely, I've seen Leon Cupra Lux for 22k on Autotrader, can't remember them that low previously.

yeh, I probs wouldn't even bother if I couldn't get the spec I've chosen. I was looking at the 2nd hand market before putting in my order and 95% of them were either

 total bottom spec with those, in my opinion, ugly wheels and no DCC

OR

some dealership hit every single option including the pano sunroof, which again personally id rather not spend 2k to put that much heavy glass and mechanics on the top of the car when id never use it.

For sure you can get some amazing cars for a lot less that are pre owned but this is the first time in my life were my job has given me the luxury to order myself a brand new car from the factory. Exactly as I want it rather than having to accept it being 90% how I want it.

I'm sure it will be fine though. they will have most of the parts ready at the factory so it would be silly for them to cancel the build.

I am one of those who has got a bottom spec with the ugly wheels and No dcc. I did toy with the idea of upgrading the wheels to the Brescias and I also did wonder about DCC as I have a ongoing stomach condition which means I feel all the bumps when my condition flares up. However, despite having a flareup at the moment I must admit I’m quite happy with the Parker alloys and no DCC. I actually feel the standard GTI ride is better than on my wife’s Audi A1 which has the dynamic/softer suspension. Whichever alloy we choose, most/all I note have a black surround to the spokes meaning they’re really easy to keep clean as brake dust et cetera doesn’t really show. However, I understand your point and wish you luck in your search. When looking for mine, I also noted that although used GTI’s were potentially thousands of pounds cheaper for models that might have only been 6 to 12 months old, by the time you had added the finance APR they were actually as expensive if not more expensive than getting a brand-new GTi on 0%

yeh the 0% finance is a huge deal and worth more than cosmetic choices.

I'm sure the standard wheels are to the taste of some people. My point was more that if you are going to spend this amount of money on a car you might as well have it looking how you'd want. And wheels can really make or break the look of a car.

I toyed in my head with going standard wheels and then buying some aftermarket OZ alloys to replace them. but after the cost of those I felt I might as well just spec up on the order.

I went for the Pretoria wheels, which I also noticed were a very tough to find option in the classifieds. So maybe a lot of people didn't like them too and I'm the one with weird taste. Or maybe they were seen as boring or less unique seeing as they were also available on the Golf R.

I think people went for the Reifnitz wheels because they were exclusive and as good as Pretorias are, there are lots of them out there. Also probably the extra cost. I didn't want Pretorias because of the Cup 2 tyres not being ideal unless you have winter tyres as well which I don't want.

Got the Falken f510’s in the end fitted to the new reifnitz reps I got from CM. Hopefully a reasonable choice between the high/low end tyres.

I do agree though, but think it’s most for cost and probably not having the Cup2 tyres as for half the year they won’t be ideal. But the Prets do look great and are relatively rare on the GTI but suit it very well. And they were the only wheels available on the CSS I think?

Firstly just really liked the wheel, it also kept the on road TCR aligned to the concept released on Worthersee lake in Reifnitz, so the name of the wheel has a nod to its deep GTI heritage in that location which is only something a few would even think to, but I am one of them few

With the added Akrapovic the on road TCR is very much the released concept at Worthersee and one of the little soft touches you add to the overall like column

On a practical front, ruined my Pretoria completely all around, where have one slight nick on N/S wheel that you have to look for given how minor it is - and not actually sure why that is, as not driving not suddenly changed, but it does not seem to catch the kerb on times get closer than should (have to sometimes parallel park quickly in less than ideal visibility conditions - before the lockdown of course)

Worst case scenario, if yours don't get built there is going to be some proper 2nd hand bargains about when this has all finished... See there is one already at £26,500 with lots at £27/28k. Heading sub £25k in a few months.

Yes, guess you won't get 0% but you might be able to save a decent chunk to offset it. Think used prices could we well be set for a massive tumble as per 2008.

There was a massive tumble in 2008? It must've been short-lived because I got a cracking deal in March 2009 when I chopped in my 57 plate MK5 Golf GT Sport TDI170 PD for a new 140TDI CR Scirocco GT. I got £15k p/x for an 18 month old £20k RRP car that I bought new for £18k after discount.

People generally weren't changing cars and the dealerships were begging for used car stock. Add in the drop in VAT to 15% for the new one, very little money changed hands for the difference.

VWs aren't built to excess, most are customer orders, built to spec on a "just in time" basis. Even in 2009, demand exceeded supply on the UK used market.

I personally hope that there isn't a scrappage scheme put in place - that was a huge con. Instead of shifting cars at a discount, the car companies took advantage to profiteer. Soon after the VAT dropped to 15%, the car companies jacked their prices up to negate the difference, they did the same again with scrappage, all prices went up £2k or thereabouts - the £6k floor for new cars became £8k. You had to be quick to take advantage of the subsidised drop before the gap filling rise kicked in.

Those factors are why (IMO) we went from outgoing MK5 GTIs to incoming MK6 GTIs costing 20% more.

It’s all geared up for the car dealers-since i’ve been looking into changing mine,i’ve done a lot of research online,spoke to people etc.
I know it’s the way the world works,but when you step back and look at it,car dealers are only happy when you are in debt,i’m struggling with this concept.
My Victorian attitude is that you save till you can afford,then you buy (a house is different)-they would sooner have you in debt,the more I think about it,the more it annoying it becomes.
I hope the arse falls out of it,then hopefully people like me and others can pick the carcass.
