You can... you can do it yourself if you have a DA.
Failing that there are a few companies that can do it- but looking at the prices I'd not consider it.
Autoglass say they don't recommend it and don't offer the service. They say it compromises the structural integrity.
You could always claim a new screen if your insurance has it. Obviously waiting until you have a large chip in your drivers arc... that could happen any time.
The cynical side of me would say Autoglass would rather you got a screen replacement as it’s more business for them

.
As for polishing out a scratch - seem to remember reading on this forum some time ago that it was highlighted (I think by Booth11) that if removing glass scratches by machine polishing, if it’s not done correctly, it’s possible to create a hollow in the polished area, which if it’s in the line of sight can cause optical distortion.
Edit; just found the thread; reply #4 by Booth11.
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=283444.0However.........in the same discussion thread (reply #10), a company called Glasweld (
https://www.glaswelduk.com/) do offer a scratch removal service, so worth considering if you wanted to avoid getting the screen replaced.
