On the topic of retro fits. When I bought my Mk6 Golf (used) I asked for Bluetooth to the retro fitted at the dealers. They said that fully integrated could not be retro fitted. All they could offer was the touchscreen add on thing from the accessory catalogue. I told them about all the companies that did this and of all the kits that were for sale on ebay, but it seems that although they use genuine parts, they use a piggyback wiring harness that is aftermarket, therefore can't be warrantied.

The cars are built with their own bespoke wiring looms, so if additional, aftermarket wiring needs to be added, they won't go near it.

I call bs on that on a mk7. Vw have been trying really hard to standardise builds, even more so on the mk8. That blind spot detection kit will plug straight into something. No messing. Nothing needs soldering. Besides what sort of warranty problem is it going to cause? They'd be hard pushed to refuse payouts on nearly everything except the blind spot system itself.
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

I am in complete agreement. I find it hard to believe that it can't be integrated quite easily. The retrofit kit that was linked earlier in the thread looks to use the genuine modules and like most things will just plug and play in. Possibly a small amount of coding will be required but can't see anything major as most have lane assist and the likes already for this to integrate in with.

BMW make a fortune on the retrofit kits and fitting etc as it's a huge market.

As for warranty, I've taken modded motors to BMW for years and never had an issue with warranty as the only thing they will refuse on is if the mod itself can be linked to the failed part.

Blind spot would need to activating through Odis or asking VW to do it which they probably won't. That's the issue with retrofits in general sometimes. Something people probably don't know about the mk8 is that vcds will not be able to change anything at all. Something to do with the car always being connected 🤷‍♂️

My reference to warranties on the Mk6 Bluetooth retrofit was not regarding the cars warranty, but the warranty on the retro fitted parts. You get a warranty on the genuine accessory if fitted by the dealer, but not on anything with third party kits.

As for wiring looms, years ago you had a one fits all body harness for a model of car. Obviously engine harnesses would differ. My old Mk2 Cavalier for example. I had a lowly model with no rev counter. Bought a set of SRI clocks from the breakers, plugged then in and they work. The same with front fog lights. The wires were tucked up behind the bumper. Plug in a new switch, plug in the relay and they worked too. When you come to retro fit parts into modern cars, no hardware is in place. Yes, the BCM is often ready and just needs coding, but wiring needs to be added, and 9 times out of 10 it's an aftermarket part.
