Acceptable Delivery Mileage
« on: 13 February 2020, 14:19 »
Curious to get peoples’ views on what is an acceptable delivery mileage in their experience assuming the new car is picked up at the supplying dealer and not delivered.

Below 15?
Below 25?
Below 50/100?

At what point does the mileage become an issue for a new unregistered car?
2026 Golf GTI ED50 ???
2025 Audi RS3 Vorsprung
2023 MK8 Golf R - sold
2021 MK8 Clubsport ED45 - sold
2016 MK7 Clubsport ED40 - still hanging around

So a little bit for it to come off of the production line and onto a transporter in Germany - maybe ~2 miles?

A little getting off of the transporter at the port to drive onto the ship - ~1 mile tops

A little getting off of the ship in the UK and onto a transporter - ~1 mile tops.

Then its at the dealer for PDI, maybe a quick test drive - ~5 miles tops.

I think most of my new cars had sub 10 miles on the clock when i picked them up.

Much more than that and someone has been using it as a run around at the dealership - I'd be asking questions...

However, I believe the mileage can be zeroed, by the dealer, early on, so the reading should only be  a guide. I seem to remember 3 resets were possible, all under a mileage limit. It may have changed since I read that, but worth bearing in mind, unless anyone knows better.

I've had 11 new VAG cars and none of them have come with more than 9 miles on them - half of those will be on non digital counts too, so no computer resets.

My guess at 9 miles wasn't bad :D

I'm sure while the car is in transport mode or doesn't clock the miles up. It also limits the speed too. Upto 100 miles in normal mode from new and the odometer can be reset.

Mine had 14, but it went onto 15 almost immediately when I was in 1st gear still!

My previous Scirocco had 12, but a Mazda RX/8 I once owned had 85 on it went I picked it up!

15miles absolute max. Pre-reg maybe a few more as it may have been moved around sites.

I picked up a brand new RS4 in 2015 which had 52 miles on the clock, I went ballistic... until I found out (confirmed by forums) that all RS products made by GMBh go through extra testing after production build and 50-60 miles was standard on pickup.
