Keyless entry
« on: 09 February 2020, 13:52 »
As I am preparing for my GTI arrival and thinking of the little what might I want to buy beforehand question, can anyone who has picked up a new GTI in the last few weeks confirm whether the keyless now includes any form of motion sensor or do we still need to rely on faraday pouch/manually deactivating?

The below link seems to indicate the passat has it? If so, and the golf and other VW models do not, that just seems so stupid!

Just lock the car fob and then tap the sensor on the door immediately, you will hear another click which will deactivate keyless entry, just be sure to wait 10 seconds or so to confirm all is locked, mine sometimes isn't, after that the car won't open without the fob being pressed.

Thanks - it is surprising that over the course of time that VW have not either developed/tweaked the technology for all models or offered some kind of retrofit to offer it

A £3 Faraday pouch does just the job 👍

This does the job, makes the security just as if the car wasn’t keyless. If you have the alarm “chirp” enabled, you get one when you press the remote fob and another when you touch the door handle. After that the car is no longer keyless entry and you need to unlock the car using the remote. Mine has always done this reliably and, to be honest, I have got used to doing it most of the time, unless I am totally happy with where the car is parked and I’m not leaving it long.

I'll probably use the turning keyless off and my pouch at the outset just to make sure

Can I just check I am doing this correctly, as my 7.5 GTD does NOT work in this way ...

I have locked the door with the key fob
Immediately after locked, , I touch the sensor on the door handle - you then hear another click
If I leave the car for  minimum 5 minutes, and come back, I can STILL unlock the door by just touching the door handle. Keyless still seems to be working.
Am I doing something wrong ??

(I've tried it several times, and this "keyless deactivation" never works ...)
