Apple Carplay GTI Clubsport S Help!
« on: 06 February 2020, 07:49 »
Hi All,

So I've been trying to get Apple Carplay to work in a 2016 GTI Clubsport S, App connect was installed but needed activated so took it to my local dealer yesterday for activation, 3 hours later they still couldn't get it to work with apple carplay, It's working fine with Android Auto but when you plug an iPhone in you just get the error message "Unable to connect. Please check if the mobile device supports apple carplay.". The dealer has just come to the conclusion that it's not supported but these cars are being advertised as having it so I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or can anyone confirm if it works in a Clubsport S??

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

The usb will I believe need replacing. All the Clubsport S usb connectors from factory would not allow CarPlay to work.

Thanks for help!, so I've now tried 2 other dealers who both think the car is compatible, mentioned the USB socket to them and they say that the car already has the most up to date socket installed as all other USB sockets available for the car are pre 2016, does anyone know a part number possibly? Would love to know if anyone with a CSS actually has it working to make sure I'm not wasting everyone's time

My CSS is working with CarPlay. Been fine for 2 plus years now after USB socket change. I don’t have the revised part number unfortunately. I could check with the dealer which did mine but would take some time. The dealer should be able to help you, if not I’ll try and find out but would likely be next week.

Thanks for your help!, think I'm getting sorted now, been on with VW Support, they confirmed that it works fine and that the dealer should have known to replace the USB socket, they have told me to contact the dealer and request that the "'multimedia kit for apple for discover media" is installed and this will fix the problem  It's probably not worth it but I've went this far now can't give up too easy

Had the same problem with my CSS. Once installed it would not connect. Turned out to be a faulty USB socket in the dash cubby hole. Was replaced and worked fine after.

The front facing socket is the same but the wiring and wiring harness is different on the back of the socket. There's extra wires and a different wiring setup to accommodate CarPlay

Code for the correct socket/harness is 5G0035222E
SOLD March 2021
