Golf GTI 2017 ST51 LAR
« on: 05 February 2020, 18:54 »
Hi

My son is looking to purchase this car, does anybody know the history of it either good or bad?

It's a mk7.5 on a private plate

Cheers

According to the GOV.UK website and the tax / MOT checker, it’s not been taxed since July last year, so it might have been sitting on a dealer’s forecourt since then, which could suggest it’s over priced or poor condition.

Any links to a dealer’s sale ad with pictures? (assuming it is for sale through a motor trader). Sometimes knowledgeable forum members can spot things from sale ads that might be good or bad.

If it’s owned privately, I’d want to understand why the owner didn’t renew the VED last year - could be for legitimate reasons - e.g. it could’ve been SORN and laid up by the owner if they weren’t using it.

Would be odd for someone to sell it on a private plate would it not? Unless it's the ex's name lol

I just assumed it had been repossesed hence the private plate. I'd guessed it had been sitting around for a while due to the mileage.

I sold my last GTI to a dealer complete with private plate.....it was worth v little and more hassle than it was worth to keep. And I was changing to a different but equally cheap new private number for a change.
And, before anyone comments, no I don’t have money to burn

To be fair I sold one of my earlier cars with the plate on for the very same reason, just to much hassle for a £200 plate..... it would cost almost that to swap it over plus I didn't want to have to wait until I could remove it! (DVLA were very slow around that time..... guess somethings don't change!)

I'd make sure you get the log for the plate if you go for the car though, just in case you want to remove it or sell it at some point in the future, it will make life much easier!!

 oops... just realised I still have the log for my old plate from that car!  guess it must still be on it!!

From the pictures on the dealer’s website, the car looks good and well prepared for sale too, with plenty of pictures. I’ve seen quite a few Golf GTI’s advertised for sale with dirty, black tailpipes, dirty, scuffed wheels, brake callipers covered in grime and a generally grubby interior; none of that applies to this car. The customer reviews on Auto Trader website for Southport Motor Company are good too.

The only thing I can see that might need looking at is the front nearside fog light. In the 18th picture - the one taken of the front of the car from a low angle - the nearside front fog light looks as if it might have some moisture / condensation inside it. It might just be the angle the picture was taken at, but worth checking out.

Yeah my son's left a deposit on it, they have done him a good deal and a good finance rate on PCP. To be fair, they've been really helpful and really honest.
He's over the moon and can't wait to get back from his honeymoon so he can collect it, like a boy with a new toy so to speak.
