Brescia Alloys
« on: 26 January 2020, 20:41 »
Have just bought a 4000 mile old GTi on Brescia alloys and P Zero tyres. Love the ride of the car, but am pretty worried that the wife’s going to make a mess of my unmarked wheels, so was wondering about changing them. My question is, do the 18” Parkers change the way the car rides? And will the profile of the 18” tyres give much more Kurb protection? Also, if anyone in the South West England is interested in doing a wheel swap, drop me a message (but they will need to be mint!). Cheers

Seems a bit pointless to splash out on mint VW wheels just to get them trashed.

Surely some cheap reps would do the job??

Or go for some tyres with a very big protective lip. It's about 8mm on Michelin PS4s.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

How about some rim protectors? They are good looking wheels, would be a shame not to enjoy them.

Or just don’t let the wife drive it?

Changing the wheels seems extreme.. what is she, blind?

Thanks for the replies. Sometimes I feel she is blind!

Hadn’t really thought about rim protectors. Will have a look into some.

I’ll also look into PS4 tyres. The P-Zeros do seem to offered limited protection.

I have some Dunlop winter sport tyres on a set of ok alloys. But they’re 225/45/17. Would a 17” wheel go over GTi’s front brakes?

A few members over on Briskoda have swapped the 225 width tyres on their 19's for 235's. This improves rim protection, and ever so slightly improves the ride quality due to the marginally thicker tyre wall. You may have to think about letting your insurance company know though, as this is a non-standard tyre size for your car.

If its a GTI Performance then only certain 17" wheels will clear the front brakes.

It is a Performance. So clearance could be an issue, but will carefully trial fit one later this week.

Thanks for all the advice

The 17" Dijon wheels fit from the mk7 Golf GT without spacers. They are 17" x 7J and the offset is 49.
Ours is running on them now for winter.

VW also sell a 6J wide Dijon as a dedicated winter wheel.
