Wing mirror - mirror dropped out
« on: 31 December 2019, 08:44 »
On the M62 this morning, outside lane, caught a ‘flash’ out the corner of my eye thought nothing of it till I pulled into middle lane and then the inside got my turning and then realised the mirror was ‘dark’ thought briefly it was still misted up even though I’d had the heated option on and then it gradually dawned on me the glass had gone.
So... I’m really hoping I won’t have to replace the whole unit.. surely I will be able to just buy the glass.

Luckily it doesn’t seem to have damaged my car on the way off.. and also I hope no-one behind me got damaged by it..

Thanks SRGTD...
going to do a quick  glass replacement today as managed to source one locally, NY making delivery option too long. . Don’t like driving illegally 😇. Then depending how that goes might get the mirror glass with base online for around £14 or from Dealer at £65...mmm.

Update.. ended up buying the mirror glass with backing from euro parts, with Christmas discount , £32. But was so disconcerted driving without it I called at nearest VW dealer and called on their Christmas spirit and they very kindly fitted it for me so I could drive home with confidence.

Mine fell out on the passenger side when I was washing it one day and with my lightning fast reflexes I picked it up off the floor after it bounced a couple of times but there was no damage. I then fixed it back on with a very thin layer of fish tank silicone and since then it has been fine.
