Stop/Start system

Is anyone else frustrated by the stop start system on the golf 7.5? I find it cuts in too early and starts the engine up when often I don’t want it to. If you’re at a set of lights that are red and the car in front rolls forward a yard, the car starts, I’d rather it started when I accelerate. If there anyway of changing the settings?

There's a few threads and discussions on this - I agree with you, I'm not a fan of the stop/start, especially on the DSG where it tends to cut out as you slow down to approach some junctions. The restart can also take a split second too long when you need to get out at a busy roundabout too.

There are ways to deal with it - physically unplugging a cable that connects to the battery. There are also coding options via OBD/ Carista etc that can trick the system into thinking the battery is under heavy load, therefore it won't engage the stop/start. To be honest, I was going to code mine, but now I just turn off the damn thing as part of starting the car - a single button push per journey and its become almost second nature after I've put the seatbelt on...

The choice is yours obviously though.

Stop start can be disabled via obdeleven or vcds via the voltage or temp methods,
Or you can stop it restarting when the car in front moves in the ACC module (again via obdeleven or vcds)

Change to off

What's this wire you speak of? Is it the extra bit that connects to the negative terminal?

Glad I'm not the only one who presses the disable button at the start of a journey.......doesn't work great with DSG at all, cuts in as soon as you stop. The exit from my drive is slightly uphill and totally blind,  I use convex mirrors so I can see traffic. With the ss  enabled you loose that creep with the DSG where I can nudge out a bit at a time all controlled by easying the brake pressure.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Moving from a Mk7 manual to a 7.5 DSG Performance,  the s/s feature which worked so well on the first car is a massive irritation on the latter.
Will be unplugging this lead as swiftly as I unplugged the unloved Soundaktor.
As I have always switched my engine off in long tailbacks for as long as I can remember, I believe that short auto s/s activation achieves almost no co2 reduction worth justifying the irritation and potential hazard.
I also find the auto- stop sensation unpleasant on the 7.5 performance so I am hoping for a win all round.

Oh happy 2020.......it took me 30 seconds to unplug the connection to the battery.
A source of daily irritation and occasional hazard has been solved.
Wish I had known about this fix when I got the car in 3/19.
If I am stopped for more than a minute I will choose to switch off as I have done for the last 50 years.
Oh, and Happy New Year to you all.
