Thinking of selling
« on: 20 November 2019, 11:38 »
Hi all, due to change in personal circumstances I am considering selling my 2018 GTI PP, just wondered if anyone has any experience with selling through Motorway or any other car buying companies, private selling is really not my thing, can't be doing with the hassle, test drives etc, not to mention tyre kickers and stupid offers!

If it helps, I have just sold GTI a few weeks ago using 'Wizzle' (it's free), as I did not want the hassle of private sale. Wizzle is a dealer only for sale site.

It worked well for me, car was put up for sale on the Sunday, sale agreed with a Toyota main dealer on the Tuesday, car collected on the Thursday morning.  A few forms to fill in and a 5 min inspection of car upon collection, then bank transfer straight into my account.  V5 done, keys handed over and drove off. Job done.

According to CAP I got pretty much middle ground between trade-in vale and private sale value, certainly I got more than I was offered by two garages as a trade-in.  I was going to use Tootle but went bust a few month back.

I used Tootle to sell my R in May, as said, they've gone the way of the Dodo, but best prices on there came in at around a grand better than best prices on Motorway.

In the end, Prestige Performance near York got the car. A guy got the train up, I picked him up in the R and drove him to mine. Car was appraised and as I described it, he didn't try to knock me down. He called his boss to say all was ok, the boss transferred funds and we waited until I could see the funds in my account through personal banking before he drove off with the R.

I got £17300 for my (then) 46 month old R with Lapiz paint and Prets when local dealerships were offering me £15500-£16000. They had it up for £19995.

The guy did say to call him directly if I ever wanted to offload my Polo GTI+.

Give them a go.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Andrew Chapple "Volkswizard" is always on the lookout for good quality VW's - especially GTI's. He's in Hollywood (as in south side of Birmingham B47 5BN) so depends where you are, but could be worth an enquiry. http://www.volkswizard.co.uk/VWsWanted.htm

I don't know the man, but he comes across well on his videos and he claims he'll beat any dealer P/X price...
If you do meet him and he wants a test drive, make sure you go with him. He's a bit keen...

Toeman - to be fair, the OP made it clear why he is not interested in selling privately - the thread is about commercial car buying services.

Thanks for all the replies, have tried Wizzle, received an offer that was reasonable, but have decided, at least for the time being to stick with the Golf
