Rear Wiper Judder ?
« on: 07 November 2019, 08:45 »
Hi guys, my rear wiper has started juddering really badly on the upwards sweep. When it returns (comes down), it's perfect, so it's just when the wiper sweeps up. It started a few weeks ago, and as far as I know, nothings damaged it and it looks brand new still ?

I've thoroughly cleaned the rear glass with Autoglym fastglass as well as Isopropyl alcohol, and even change the wiper to a Bosch aerotwin to no avail.

My guess is that the rear wiper arm is perhaps slightly out of shape and allowing the wiper to sit on the glass at an awkward angle ? Anyone ever had this and any ideas please ?

Also, whilst I'm at it, on the front windscreen I have a lot of what looks like run marks which have suddenly appeared after bonfire weekend. They are invisible to the eye until you wet the windscreen or use the wipers when you can then see them, and they disappear as the windscreen dries. I'm thinking it might be residue from firework fallout as my next door neighbour had a lot of fireworks in his back garden and my car sits on the other side of the fence. I've tried the same as the rear screen i.e Autoglym fastglass as well as Isopropyl alcohol, but you think you have shifted it, until you wet the screen and they appear again. Once again, anyone any ideas please as they weren't there a week ago.

Mine drives me batty!

I've not tried cleaning or replacing it though - I thought it probably was just the rubber worn out or gone hard.

A Bosch rear wiper was just over £5 from Eurocarparts, using one of their discount codes, no issues since.

Absolutely, the OEM wipers are next to useless compared to the Bosch ones. Once you swap you will wonder why you waited so long to do it.

Think the OP has already done that.

Sootchucker, mine is the same. When it was in recently at the dealers for the headlight they even referred to the judder on the health check. Need to try and sort it.

Just replaced the rear screen blade on my wife’s Fabia Estate, as that started to judder after about 12 months. A new OEM blade fixed it. I thought just over a year was a bit short, but you don’t know all the history of even a new car - how long it’s been standing out in the weather etc.

Now, though, the blade on my 8 month old GTI has started juddering. On the first occasion, after a squirt of washer fluid failed, I stopped and gave the rear screen and blade a clean with spray screen cleaner, which I believe is mostly white vinegar. That worked for a while, but it is now back to juddering, unless the screen is properly wet. Thinking of giving it all a thorough clean, but not holding out much hope.

I noticed the runs on the front screen last night, but I haven’t tried anything yet.

Just a thought, I keep a coat of G-Techniq C2v3 on my glass and the blades front and back run smoothly. The rear blade is the original one from new and no issues.

Glass sealants I’ve found are always a gamble as sometimes that can add a judder I didn’t have before if the glass isn’t that wet.
