I thought a turbo these days still has coolant pumped round if it’s hot and the engines off ?

More about the oil flow around the turbo bearings, no engine running, no oil pressure cooling and lubricating bearings spinning at 17K and then suddenly stopping, which is why I let it warm down slowly for about a minute. I’m no expert on stop / start, but as I’ve said before to me, just seems counterintuitive.

The temps are all monitored and validated against. There is a run on pump once the engine stops that continually pumps the oil around the lubrication system to stop heat soak. It’s continues running at key off, usually for about 15 mins, or when the temp reaches the cut off threshold.

Thanks for that, GTI is first car I’ve had with stop start - I just remember my mates MG Metro Turbo from the early ‘80’s and me screaming at him to look after the turbo - which it eventually ate.
My last car (Discovery 4) was nursed along to make sure warmed up and warmed down.👍

I think if I had a Golf R I'd use it more often but I've used it probably 5 times in ~18 months mainly in fear of damaging something, like the OP, it just doesn't sit right with me. I prefer a rolling start anyway.

The trick is to read the traffic lights to predict when the lights will go green all without coming to a complete stop (or so I'm told)
