I told Richard Martin I had DCC and it doesn't make a blind bit of difference. I used to go to Tyre Spot at Houghton for my tyres until they damaged two of my alloys last year and then denied doing it. I was going to try Tyre Spot at Durham come tyre time but I'm dubious that they'll be any better. What made it worse was the machine they have is a touchless one yet they still managed to scratch two!

For tyres. The only person except me I allow at my wheels and tyres is Peter Kerr from tyres2u as hes as picky as me and a true car enthusiast. https://www.mobile-tyres2u.co.uk/ . Had far too many bad experiences from other places.

Ive used both Tyr-ex Durham and Revolution once personally before without issue for full alignment on hunter machines.
As others said Revolution are no more.
Not sure who I would use if need be at the moment. I do my tracking at mates using his gear but full alignment im not sure who I would use now.

Richard Martin gets my vote 👍. Btg in North Shields looks a fantastic place but the guy just didn't seem interested in even checking it for me.

mkviken, thanks that's really helpful.

Durham is only 24 miles from me and my son takes his Clio RS to the Renault garage so I know exactly where you mean.

As I asked mcfaddy earlier, is there anyone senior there you could reccommend I should ask to speak to/request to carry out the job?
Can you recall what alignment equipment they use?
Do you remember what their charges are?

mcmaddy, aaargh!!   Thanks for that feedback, noted.

mkviken seems to have had a better experience at TyreSpot Durham doesn't he.

When you say "the machine they have is a touchless one" is that the one where they have four rigs (laser?) that rest on the top of each tyre?

I'll get in touch with Richard Martin soon I think.

Snoopy, tyres2 u looks good, thanks.

I see one of his mobile services is "front wheel alignment" and he can travel to Darlington if required.

I've seen pit crews do that this year on BTCC cars at Croft.  So it can't be that bad (no expensive fancy laser static kit needed I mean).

My Express Visual Check at the local dealer earlier this month showed that my fronts were within manufacturers tolerance.  But I'm content for Peter Kerr to  try to improve on that.

The rears were slightly out apparently, they said.  That's just a single eccentric bolt adjustment isn't it?
I'm sure Peter Kerr could have a go at that.

I don't suppose anyone knows where I can easily get the manufacturers alignment settings for my Mk 7 PP DCC 19" Santiagos (that's probably not relevant I realise).

Anyway, I'll keep tyres2u contact details handy for new tyres and repairs in the future.

BTW nice to see so many helpful GTI owners around Durham isn't it?

mcmaddy, that's good to know (Richard Martin).

I recall that you said earlier that Btg didn't seem interested - odd isn't it?   Their loss.  I'll give them a miss.

When I contact RM I can't say mcmaddy recommend you can I - they won't have a clue?
Would you mind PM-ing me your name (or the last three letters of your registration)?
I really won't be offended it you're uncomfortable with that.

I was my Leon cupra that I took there and they used a hunter machine and they had the settings for DCC (which mine has)

Car was definitely better afterwards I’ll take my wife’s GTI in I think as I’ve just fitted 4 new tyres to each car

I got the tyres fitted by a mobile fitter - think it was we R tyres or something and he was excellent. Comes to your house or work

No sure what the bloke was called but he was spot on. I think it was about £100 or so but can’t remember to be honest but it was about the same as anywhere else for a hunter alignment and they did it without having to make an appointment
