Mk7.5 Headlights
« on: 19 September 2019, 13:35 »
Hi,

I am on my third GTI, a 2013 manual, 2015 DSG PP with Dynaudio and now a 2018 GTI PP with sunroof, Breacias, dynamic chassis control and Dynaudio.

Recently I have noticed a few mk7.5 GTD, GTI and Rs with low beam headlights on with both the inner and outer LEDs illuminated.

On my 2018 7.5 the inner bulbs only illuminate on full beam - was there an option for different lighting setups?

Sorry, can’t remember all the headlamp options, but the one I have, which was the standard fitment, has an auto high beam management setting which uses all the headlamp bulbs, controlling the beam pattern, using flaps, to avoid dazzling oncoming cars, or cars being followed. Works very well, in my experience, illuminating around cars being followed so that you can see the nearside verge. I have never, so far anyway, been flashed!

They added the full dynamic lights as standard as part of the model year '19 updates so you will have missed out on these on 2018 car unless it's a late 2018 car.

Can these be retrofitted to a 2018 (well, October 2017)? If not, what about the automatic main beams?

If it’s a Mk7.5 facelift model, with the latest headlamp shape, then they probably can, but.........

It wouldn’t be just the headlights. You would need the correct camera thingy in the rear view mirror mount and then the new lights would need coding to the car. Guessing the cost would be considerable.

Thanks for the replies, mine was a Feb 2018 build. I was surprised how many I have seen with the dynamic light. Standard LED setup is pretty good. My only complaint is the sweeping rear indicators- I am not really a fan, but I only see them when I unlock/lock the car.

Either way, the 7.5 looks much better than the mk8 so far. Hopefully the GTI mk8 will be something special. I still maintain the opinion that a Golf is the perfect all rounder for the money!

What's the complaint with sweeping indicators? I'm sure you'll find some happy to swap their MK7 rear lights for your superior, more modern Mk7.5 ones if you don't like them that much. My view is they look a lot better.

It’s only the sweeping indicator I don’t really like that much - each to their own.

Other than those which are down to personal preference, it’s a great all rounder.

Thanks for all the comments about the headlights.

Automatic main beam was replaced by dynamic light assist in the Mk7.5, which is what you can see with the headlight differences.

Both used/use a camera unit behind the mirror but the dynamic light assist uses a more advanced unit that is also used for lane assist PLUS different headlight units.

Seem to remember you can get the parts and can retrofit but you are talking thousands of pounds.
