Flat Battery...

Tried going to work this morning and the battery was flat. Called VW assistance, who arrived very quickly, but he couldn't pinpoint the reason behind it, although he stated as the battery was at 8.5 volts, something is definitely discharging it. Car at dealers in Lincoln now and should be having a hire car delivered to my house in an hour or two. Fingers crossed an easy fix.

Have you got anything plugged in like a dash cam?

I have nothing plugged in at all, I have a Polo GTI for a couple of days while they try to work out what is causing the issue.

How old is the car? When these batteries fail they give no warning and just die.

The car is only 8 months old.

How many miles on the car?  Not a GTI, but the original battery on my R failed at 17k miles (30 months).  Battery kept going flat and wouldn’t hold charge after recharging. Was tested overnight at VW and dead cell so replaced under warranty. Quite a few other R owners have also had their batteries fail at similar miles and within factory warranty period.

Hope you get sorted, definitely shouldn't be an issue after 8 months. I'm on my 2nd Mk7.5 and no issues and lots of shorter runs for mine. Out of interest, is yours keyless?

Only thing I've noticed when detailing, mostly JLRs as its happened on an XKR, a Rangie and F Pace is that after working on them for a day, the low battery warning can flash up. Normally I try and leave the key a bit away from or in the car to avoid locking/unlocking by accident when washing etc. They have all been keyless models.

The dealer got in touch today and confirmed that there is a definite drain on the battery, so something is staying live. Now they need to identify what it is. But the VW servers were knocked off by the storm earlier in the week so will be at least next week. At least I have a hire car in the mean time. I'm just happy they have confirmed the symptom - i dreaded the "We cant find anything wrong" scenario.
