Anti rollbar link - dangerous?
« on: 07 August 2019, 13:47 »
Hey guys, so my Gti is back at the dealers today after 2 months of ownership.

I could hear a clunking/knocking from the rear when driving around at slow speeds, pretty much from driving it off the forecourt.

Just been called to say it needs a replacement anti rollbar link and one is on order for tomorrow.

Was it dangerous that i was driving around like that, should i make a deal of it or just forget about it? Seems mad that a brand new car has issues like that, surely it should have come up in pre-checks...

Cheers

If it's just knocking but still connected, I doubt it's dangerous. It'll be unlikely to change the handling characteristics in any way.

Probably not worth making a deal of it - if they're fixing it as soon as it was brought to their attention, they'll have done all they can. There's no way it could be proved either way if it was there (and missed) on PDI. Components can fail prematurely in any walk of life.

Another way to think about it is (and this is how I rate garages/services) it's not the actual initial problem that I rate them on, but how they deal with it. If they've sorted it within a reasonable timescale, I'd be happy with that.

Yeah thats the way i see it, if it was something dangerous then i would have questioned it more.

Fact of the matter is, ive been driving it ok, just sounded 'clonky' at slow speeds lol.

Will see how it feels tomorrow once they do the work and i collect :) I miss it already

Hope you get this sorted. It's disheartening having a brand new car go wrong, but stick with it, get it fixed and try to move forward and enjoy the car again.

Sounds like some idiot transporter driver has used the wrong bit to strap the car down while being delivered to dealer

I drove home from the Ring with no front ARB, having snapped it riding the kerb at the top of Foxhole.
