Auschwitz.
« on: 29 July 2019, 10:35 »
A friend of mine has just visited Auschwitz and sent me a few photo's as you do these days. Wasn't expecting these though, apparently the heaters there were made by VW!

 Who knew!?

That doesn't surprise me, someone had to make them. I do though find it rather distasteful people taking pictures at such sites. I've been to Auschwitz too and was shocked at the behaviour of other visitors and how they were having pictures of themselves posing next to various items.

A surprising number of modern day multi-nationals provided war materials for the Nazi party - Hugo Boss, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes- so why not VW.

I agree on the pictures - it feels disrespectful.

Any and every engineering facility in Germany was used to manufacture anything and everything for the Third Reich.... much the same as happened in the UK. Unfortunately, that's large scale war for you.

I've never seen VW made stoves like this, but they definitely made wings for Junkers aircraft.

If we had a WW3 fought in the same way as WW2 and the planes/tanks/subs were made by VAG, they'd want the war done before 3 years was up and things started going wrong just out of warranty.

We'd have to ensure that we had Rolls Royce* making all our stuff and not JLR.

* Not the  car division, BMW owns that.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Read on another forum that a Tiger tank needed ten hours maintenance to run for one hour . So we have to be thankful things have moved on from that !

Totally agree with you......some people these days really don't behave with any respect for the meaning of the surroundings they are in

We visited 15 years ago, we were there the day after boxing day,  snow and ice  -15 C at the time........it really gave you a feel for the appauling conditions those prisoners suffered.

I'm pleased to say that all the visitors with us that day showed total respect and humility  for the suffering that occurred there.

I'm afraid to say the selfie trend and social media, crapbook etc has made so many totally vain .....their motivation being a photo on their site which say "oh look at me everyone" ....pathetic IMO.
