what suspension set-up & polyurethane bushs ??
« on: 13 October 2005, 11:47 »
Hi all, have my 1990 16v up and running but its in need of some suspension tuning, all feels a bit loose and wobbly if you know what i mean. So im going to get a new uprated suspension kit along with new top mounts for it and am looking at maybe using a polyurethane bush kit to tighten things back up again.

So im looking for a suspension kit which will provide good handling & ride and wont lower the car too much (preferably not more than 20-30mm) and wont break the bank, any recommendations, prices, best places to buy etc.  ?

Is anyone here using polyurethane bushes and how do they find them, are they noisy, do they increase the road noise noticably  etc. ? also what kits are recommended, are the cheaper prothane/bugpack kits ok or is it only worth doing using powerflex bushes ??

any info on this greatly appreciated,
cheers

the bugpack ones are actually stiffer than the proflex ones so its a waste of money getting them!! whatever shocks you get put some eibach springs on, they lower about 30mm. the bushes dont really make that much more noise, but you can feel every bump in the road :undecided: its worth it tho

Eibach Springs, Boge gas shocks or Koni Adjustable shocks if you can afford them.

I was advised by my mechanic, (who builds race cars, and track days his own Mk2 vr6 conversion) not to polly bush my car, since it's a daily driver, and it can be too harsh, but it's up to you!

Doing the top mounts and replacing the wishbone bushes should help alot tho. polly bushes or not!

thanks, ive heard a lot about the koni/eibach combination being good although may be more than i want to spend, have to wait and see how my finances are.
And as for the poly bushes im still unsure but i was thinking that maybe they might be a bit harsh myself although having had no experience of them before didnt know. I really dont fancy having too much vibration, shake etc. going through the cabin.
Ultimatley im looking to turn the car into a fast road car, something that handles well and is relativly quick. Id like to think at some point ill also look to getting eibach anti-rollbars on the car as well..

cheers

Eibach ARBs seem to be hard to get hold of, you might have more luck with Neuspeed ?
