Thanks for the replies, time to visit a few dealers.

Back to your original post though - could be more cost effective to set up an Uber account for your father?!

Range Rover Evoque Si4 is an extremely good engine with 237bhp and 251lf ft of torque.  Mine also came with 9 speed auto and made it a bloody decent ride.

Good luck to anyone who drives a RR out of warranty!

Been there, done that - why I now drive a GTI

I had a Discovery 4 from new in 2010 - every time I started it in recent years it was a case of ‘is this the time the crank snaps’ - google it and you will see what I mean.

Daughter just bought a MY19 Evoque - nice car but I’m not sure if they have fixed the oil dilution issues on the Ingenium engine.
MY2019 GTI Mk 7.5 Performance. DSG, 5 Door, Rear Camera, Climate Windscreen and Rear Window Factory Tints, Indium Grey.

I think a lot of the problem with elderly relatives trying to get into Golfs is more the pronounced side bolsters on the seat squab making it hard for them to shuffle into place whilst they attempt to swing their legs in. Instead they’re treated to an instant prostate examination by the seat bolster causing rapid pupil dilation which hampers ingress more than the actual height of the seat.
So I wonder whether a T-Roc R or similar vehicle sharing the GTI type engine with higher seating would actually be of that much more benefit if it has sports seats..

Talking of SUV’s, a colleague of mine had his Jaguar barge back in the the dealers for the third time for a leather seat cover (warranty) replacement last week and was given an E-Pace courtesy car.
It looked a bit odd in flat red, the colour didn’t suit the car or image, and despite a rather sumptuous interior there is hardly any rear legroom for the size of the thing.

Another colleague was wondering what cheap car to buy for his wife that fits three kids and capable of towing a horse box shortish distances.
The first thing that came to mind was a Dacia Duster for some reason. A quick look on their website and the base model is £1300 down and just over £100 a month for 4 years with a service plan just £5 a month extra. Now *that* is cheap motoring! Granted the thing is bloody awful but...

Interesting thought.
