Just drive it normally / sensibly. As has been said, always ensure the oil is up to optimum temperature before any spirited driving, vary your speed, engine revs and avoid labouring or over-revving the engine.

Bear in mind that with a new car, the tyre treads might still have some of the lubricant on them that is used in the factory to release the tyres from the vulcanising moulds when they’re manufactured. Therefore, it might take a few miles driving for this lubricant to wear off. Until then, tyre grip might not be at its most effective, so it makes sense to avoid hard braking / cornering during the first few miles of driving - unless necessary in an emergency avoidance situation. Similarly with brakes, avoid hard braking that could (in rare circumstances) result in the brakes overheating. Gentle frequent braking during the first, say, couple of hundred miles should ensure good contact between the pad and disc surfaces, which should help optimise braking performance and efficiency in the longer term.

I got my car as an ex-demo/manager's company car with 1500 miles on it. I strongly suspect the sales staff were not especially careful with it judging by the test drive I was given but it has been near 100% reliable (only fault has been a wheel bearing which was due to a pot hole) and in four years has only ever neaded a couple of small oil top ups between services. So I really wouldn't worry about it, there's nothing much you can do to it that will be an issue in the 2 or 3 years you'll have it for.

That's what mine was, although it had 6000 miles on the clock. At 14000 now, no issues that I'm aware of - service on friday!

I just wondered whether the owners manual insisted on a run in period. Also, I was told the car tracks how you drive for VW to review in case of issues? E.g it definitely tracks each use of launch control.

Launch control is the most pointless feature the DSG box offers. By the time S/M has been engaged, ESP has been turned off and feet repositioned on the pedals, the person that has just floored it in D is already doing over 60mph and disappearing off down the road.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

And actually for a lot of cars, in reality, it can often be as quick to just floor it anyway as demonstrated in lots of various drag races on Youtube by people like Carwow.

Don't be ridiculous now. You obviously set that stuff up before the light goes green...

Mine had 9 miles on it when I picked it up, I had a 1/4 mile drive to the dual carriage way slip road took it steady for that 1/4 mile never went other 2500 revs and never laboured the gearbox, hit the slip road and have never looked back

However If I was keeping the car longer than the warranty period then it would have had a progressive run in up until 1000 miles just for piece of mind

boardlord - so, in effect, if not keeping the car beyond it's warranty period, just thrash it and pass onto some poor unsuspecting bu**er who buys it then?

He's only being honest!

If you buy a used car, how do you know how it's been driven? You don't. You can get a gut feel by the overall condition but you don't know if the previous owner warmed it up every drive or thrashed it from cold. Absolutely impossible apart from in one situation. You buy it off someone you actually know.
