Android auto and spotify

Really? Interesting...

Are you opening any app on your phone before connecting? I can skip tracks, but cant fast forward. The whole not being able to scroll through all tracks in a playlist is silly, even when stationary.

I'm not opening the app. My Bluetooth is on and the android auto app on phone seems to open automatically  once the car is connected to Bluetooth.

I then plug in the usb cable to the phone and click the app button on infotainment system and I'm on my way!

I tried Apple Carplay on my way home and the interface isn't as nice looking but it does have the time elapsed/remaining and you can ffwd using the screen and steering wheel controls.

However, I couldn't see what track was coming next (will try again though) so not sure it would work for your playlists.

Cheers for looking andy! When your looking at a playlist, say in spotify or something, does it list all the songs and let u scroll through them?

I've just checked whilst parked on the drive and it works as you say - I could look at all 33 tracks in the playlist by pressing back from the first image. Will need to check when driving to make sure it is the same...

I thought that might be the case, I think the list restriction only applies to android auto, it's a google security thing... I'm gonna try CarPlay on an old iPhone 5 I've got. Just updating iOS now. It's a pain because using spotify and listening to music in the car is a big deal for me and having an android phone is going to make that experience an annoying one

No issues on the move either - in fact there's no "focus on the road messages" so think you're right that it's a google thing.

The only issue with using your old iphone for music (unless you're transferring your sim) is that you won't be able to make and receive calls, as Carplay and Android Auto overule bluetooth.

Yeah I did think that, although was thinking I could maybe connect the old iphone via cable and just leave in the car with all spotify playlists downloaded. Then connect my daily phone via bluetooth for calls etc... who knows if that would work. Just about to try it. Either that or change to an new iphone for my daily... such a pain, damn u google

Yup cant connect bluetooth of daily phone and have iphone connected via cable.

But, the whole spotify experience is much better, might have to look at getting an iphone as a daily

... and then you'll start playing with Apple Music, realise it's VERY good and immediately bin off Spotify, just like I did... 

Apple Music for me has totally replaced Spotify and Amazon Music. Primarily because the app ALWAYS works, 3rd party apps can be quite buggy on CarPlay (Amazon Music is a nightmare!).
