problematic (?) wheel alignment

hi all

I've had an issue with wheel alignment, don't know if it's just me being too fastidious but i can't stand the steering wheel not being 100% aligned.  Anyways i've had the car from new, 15k miles so far on the clock, it needed re-alignment due to potholes etc but as it has so often been the case with my previous car - gti mk6, also a dsg - following re-alignment, the wheel doesn't feel 100% aligned - a slight deviation (which is barely observable but is there) to the left.  I've taken it back to my service guy (not VW) and he tried it again but same thing.  Seems that no matter how carefully this is done, there's always a slight deviation.

Anyone else had similar issues? Has anyone tried this at VW and has it actually worked with them?

Does he agree that the problem is there? Is it measurable on his alignment kit?

Well he can see there's a very slight problem but can't seem to be able to totally fix it - he's not charging me extra btw, last time it took him 3 tries to make it near perfect, he charged only 1.  I was wondering whether this has to do with the actual kit he's using (which i presume is a generic one albeit with specific settings depending on the car/model) - VW is charging more than twice what he is so i've never tried them out but is there a chance they can nail it due to the (again presumably) more specific equipment they are using?

Is it aligned when he's finished and then goes out of alignment with driving?

As I understand your problem, the guy is getting your wheels aligned OK, but your steering wheel is slightly off centre, when steering straight ahead. This should be taken care of by adjusting the alignment a little on one side (lengthening the track rod) and then doing the opposite on the other side (shortening the track rod), thus straightening the steering wheel. It’s really not rocket science. Maybe you should consider taking your car somewhere else. Economy should not always be the only consideration.
