Been away a while but heading back!!
« on: 02 April 2019, 22:38 »
Hello all,
I haven't had a Gti for a while but have never stopped enjoying reading the info and banter on his forum and as the title says, a Gti is on order again.

I'll try not to bore you all but here's a brief summary of where I went carwise...

As the username states, the Jan 2014 Mk7 Gti was bought for the other half but mainly as I wanted another one after my Mk5. It was Tornado red, manual with DCC. She loved it and kept the car 3 years, at which point we decided to order a GTD as it was mainly dual carriageway to work. It was a Dec 2016 Carbon Grey, manual with DCC and Dynaudio. Great looking car but unfortunately just didn't do it for her and she missed the Gti.

During this time I had a Sept 2015 Audi S3 saloon which was a great car but to be honest I had more fun in her Gti.
I then went to a Jan 2017 Audi SQ5 which both of us still love as it does all we need so I kindly swapped with her for the GTD which I traded in for a Jan 2018 Audi S5 coupe.
I intended to keep this for at least 4 years as it was a stunning car but I stupidly started looking at the Mk7.5 just before xmas as I really liked the updates on it then saw some of the discounts on the go with decent apr. As us men do, I convinced myself that as I'm getting on a bit (46) the coupe was a bit low with a big door and the Golf is more sensible!!! WTF!!

Anyway the last week of January saw me order a Mk7.5 Gti Performance, 5 door, DSG, Indium Grey, with Brescia's, Art Velour seats, DCC, and 90% rear tints.

I sold the S5 privately a month ago so I'm bouncing between my neighbours 7 years old Merc C class estate and brothers 6 month old Audi RS4 Avant (not exactly slumping it with that one!).

So to bring this to an end, I'm now starting to climb the wall as I've yet to receive a confirmed build date and I just cant wait to get back into a Gti.

Lovely car history there! If I had use of an RS4 I’d be faking a few delays on the new car

Thanks for the comments.
Hope it didn't come across the wrong way and I was trying to show off but other than the GTI and SQ5 we never found a car we were both happy with and believe me, its the quickest way to piss through your hard earned!!

Yes, the RS4 is a stunning car to drive but I'm definitely getting old as it a tad firm for me and it can soon empty the tank.
Anyway, brother is home tomorrow so I'm back in the Merc for 3 weeks untill he heads off again as there's no sign of the GTI being built anytime soon.

Love the look of your ClubSport and I did spec one about 2 years ago which came to £35k but with no discounts at that time decided it was just to much.
If only. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Don’t worry didn’t sound like you were showing off, car history is always interesting I think and you’ve had some lovely motors.

You’ve spec’d up yours pretty much how I would except I’ve always got music on in the car so I always look for whatever sound upgrade I can get, not disappointed with Dynaudio. Not to say that the standard system isn’t great, it’s just one of them habits I’ve got into.

Indium Grey is a great choice of colour. Think I actually preferred that colour to my current 7.5.
NOW - 330e M Sport
GONE - 2018 Mk7.5 GTI Performance 5dr DSG, Tungsten Silver, 2017 Mk7.5 GTI 5dr DSG, Indium Grey

I spec'd Dynaudio on the GTD as it was part of a Tech pack and thought it was excellent but the GTI came with the standard system and I had been more than happy with that.
This time I thought I had draw the line somewhere and not go OTT with the options so went for Art Velour for a change inside and left the Dynaudio off. I also tend to just listen to the radio most of the time anyway!!

Jim, I did think about the silver but I just wasn't sure of the slight brown'ish tint I thought I saw on some pictures, Yours always looks great tho. It was gonna be Indium grey or Tornado Red but the GTI had already been red as was the S5 so went grey.

My Mk5 was Reflex silver which I loved a) because it looked great and b) it hid all the dirt until you actually starting washing it.
Cant believe VW didn't keep that colour going on the GTI.

Interesting your chopping in a S5 for the GTI.  I'm a long term lurker here myself, had a mk5 back in the day, then an S3 (boring), then a couple of S4 avants.  We've also got a GTD on the drive.  The S4 is a year away from getting changed and I'm seriously considering a GTI to replace it.

Hope the wait isn't too painful!

Totally agree. What I find baffling is the salesman's lack of knowledge of the systems, they really are night & day, yet if you ask a salesman if it's needed they think it's similar.

The reality is the standard stereo is 8x normal paper-cone speakers with a standard 4x20w (80w max power) output from the headunit (both Discover or Discover Pro).

Dynaudio is 400w (max power) sent over 9x speakers (8 speakers plus the sub), powered via the Dynaudio amp not the headhunt. The front and rear speakers are 2-way sets (dual soft-dome tweeters and magnesium mid drivers), and the sub in the boot is a coil dual-voice.

I've rattled on about this many a time, but if you enjoy your music and/or spend a lot of time in the car listening to music, then the Dynaudio is a no brainer. Once you have it set-up (through the specific Dynaudio software menus in the headhunit) to your taste and sound type, it really does wipe the floor with the standard system, not to mention easily beats BOSE and HK offerings from other manufacturers.

If you just listen to the radio around town, then it might not be for you, tt was first on my ticklist as I love music and spend lots of time in the car travelling with it on.
