2019 GTI Performance - Exhaust
« on: 02 April 2019, 09:47 »
Just picked up my 2019 (week 6) build GTI Performance over the weekend. Im comparing this a December 2017 built 7.5 GTI Performance.

The exhaust on the 19 is so much louder! Ive set Individual Mode engine sound to comfort (also tried eco) to turn down the sound actuator, and done a few miles now. Wow, I can actually hear the exhaust with the windows down, sounds great.

As soon as I get home from work Im going to take a look underneath to see whats what, but it almost sounds as if there is no resonator, bit like the MY19 Golf R. Does anyone have access to ETKA to confirm?

My '18 plate GTI P is much louder than my '17 plate Mk7.5 230 GTI was.. Even more so now!

Mine looks (looked) like this underneath. The large box being the resonator and the small box right at the front of the section being the GPF.

NOW - 330e M Sport
GONE - 2018 Mk7.5 GTI Performance 5dr DSG, Tungsten Silver, 2017 Mk7.5 GTI 5dr DSG, Indium Grey

Thanks Jim. Same - the 2018 Performance was a lot louder than my 2017 standard GTI, but this new 19 Performance is definitely way louder, I will take a look underneath and take some photos after work

Loud exhaust is why I'm NOT getting a 7.5PP. Yes, I know (nearly) everyone raves about it but I don't...and yes, I've had a long test drive.

GTE for you then! A hot hatch that sounds like a hot hatch... it’s louder but not loud. For me, a GTI should sound good. The Mk7 was crap. It now sounds much better.

I'm with you.
Along with so called DSG 'farts' ( I'm embarrassed even typing it ), it is the bane of modern motoring.
Unnecessary noise pollution at it's worse.
Strictly for attention seekers, in my middle aged opinion

Jim - I'm not a GTE fan either. If I want something electric, I've got a TV.... The standard GTI is ok but that will clearly be used.

kalimon - glad it's not just me then :) As nearly everything on the GTI is adjustable, it's a pity the exhaust isn't too.....

I agree on the DSG farts, much better without them on the Performance models. Thanks to the GPF for that
