Targa / Carrera / Turbo - which is the one to have?
« on: 11 October 2005, 19:35 »
Saw 3 porsches today driving down the A46 behind eack other.

They weren't hanging about either!

The Targa was in front, then the Turbo, then the Carrera.

All 3 look only a couple of years old.

Anyone know which is the daddy?

"How is this relevant to the mk2 forum?" I hear you say...

Well, I was driving my mk2 at the time.

Out.

Porsche are great, i aspire one day to own a porsche. All i want is an early-mid 80's 911. Is that too much to ask! he he
My uncle has one, n/a 3.2, its mint! But i would prob say i would prefer a turbo one, or for a bit of posing a targa! all for their different purposes!!

Have driven a few,
The mid 80's 911 3.2 Carrera is the best ive driven i think?! Raw Old skool!
Early 80's 911 2.8 is ok, but it had semi auto gearbox (no clutch- it engages when you touch gear knob!!!)
2000 model 2.8 Boxter, it wasnt as good as the older Porsches but it still wasnt bad!

My verdict is i love the old skool 911's!!!!!
wouldnt say no to any Porsche to be honest
I LOVE THE SOUND OF CARBS IN THE MORNING

I think the old skool 911's are the best looking ones bar far, better than any of the newer ones or eventhe brand new ones to be honest.

How random is that change gea by just pressing the gear nob!!

Turbo is the dogz ... my old boss had a Carrera and that was quick enough, another boss had a Carrera 4S and that once again is quick and my dad has 996 Turbo  which is just great to drive ... he lets me drive that once in a while understandably... all good cars and drive amazing and handle amazing too ...

I had a 993 C4s with 3.8 RS engine, circa 310 bhp, it was my dream car and thanks to the wonder of mega house prices I released some equity and got it.
Engine to die for, they just don't stop pulling but, even with 4wd it felt like there was a big hinge connecting the front to back. I daren't park it in town as some fu**er was bound to key it though. But still many happy memories. Servicing not too bad but front brakes/pads was 800 quid alone and the dealers look at you like you're a pauper if you wince.
Bought for 37 sold 19 months later for 36 and you'd still pay that today.
Had 2 Elises in between but what am I back to? A 92 8v gti. Why? Fun, thrill of driving, running costs, tweaking ability, sometimes its not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog I reckon.
But if its what you really want do it. At least you can say you've been there then. Good luck.
