Edition 40 Engine vs Golf R Engine
« on: 31 January 2019, 17:02 »
I am led to believe these are the same engine (EA888) but that internals are different on the R, such as forged conrods, bigger turbo etc...is this true?  If so, does that mean an Edition 40 cannot be reliably tuned to R levels of BHP?  thanks.

You’re led to believe wrong.

Ed40 is Golf R or more accurately Leon Cupra engine, turbo and internals.
The Leon Cupra used to be available in two states of tune, 265 and 280/290PS. The Ed40 has both of those tunes in the ECU.

Great...thanks for that.  Am hoping for an Ed40 in the future and don't want to do too much to it but a bit extra power wouldn't go amiss.

saw that whilst researching last night...wouldnt want to go silly numbers with it...just enough to perk it up to the full fat R tune all the time instead of the 10 second overboost nonsense.  definitely falling in love with CS40.

As stated already, CS = R/S3/Cupra engine (CJX family with the bigger IS38 turbo). Standard GTI = Octavia RS = (CHH family with the smaller IS20 turbo). A quick look at the different stage numbers also shows that the CS maps to the same numbers as the R, so the minimum you will get is around 360-370bhp.

Do you have to get the DSG software as well ?

I wouldn't know, mine's a manual...
