Coolant light flashing while cold? serious or not?
« on: 10 October 2005, 12:44 »
Ok here goes..

I started the car this morning.. and tbh was a bit of a spazz and didn't hold the key in position to start it properly long enough.. started it second go and was off... I noticed when I got down the road the coolant light was flashing.. There was no way the engine was hot or anything.. so I proceded another 1/4 mile till i got stuck in traffic. Once I was stopped I turned the engine off and on again and there was no more flashing.  Its so cold at the moment that after the 2 mins of driving or however the temp rises to 70 before rising again to 90. My "commute" is a 6 min trip.. so barely nuff time to get the engine warmed up.

Looking around it seems unlikely to be anything outside a dodgy sensor, low coolant or an air block. I'm gonna check the coolant level in a minute when I go for my lunch break.

Isn't the flashing light an indication of low coolant and nothing to do with temperature?

so basically like i said.. if the coolant isNT low when i check it (2 minutes...) then its likely to be a dodgy sensor ?

Er.... If the coolant level is ok it's likely to be a dodgy sensor. If it's low, it's likely to be something to do with the coolant level being low!

just got back .. updated post with the "NT" i missed in my dash out...

results are... coolant was very low. appears to be a very small leak coming from the lower RHS of the radiator (looking face on at the car)... i'm sure i've got some more RadWeld somewhere.. so i'll have to keep an eye on this..

woe... was just about to book it in for a service too.. maybe i'll wait see whats up with this problem *sniff*

me and my mate always use  Performance Driven. they're right in the town centre.

he's just had his serviced + MOT'd there (well they use a garage around the corner to do the test) .. my IN01 is due in the next few weeks so i'm gonna see if this problem stays first before booking it in..

They're in the centre of Taunton.. not sure how good your geography of here is.. its very well hidden took me 3 laps of the block to find it and i've lived here all my life... i'll explain now to save hassles.. using landmarks you'll know ;)

Ok.. driving from the railway station in towards the town centre with harpoon louies on your right you keep going.. once past the sex shop near the swimming pool get in the right hand lane.. and when you get to the lights instead of going right like most of the traffic will .. go straight over once traffic on the left has stopped. you'll see a funeral directors there. you're now in "wood street"  the turning for performance driven is the very very first one on the right once the pavement runs out.. you have to drive up a little way to see the place.  if you see a huge ass car park on your left you've gone to far and have to go aroundthe block again.
