My car is now in the car and a full diagnostics check shows no faults what so ever ! Mechanic says the coil is working fine and plugs are producing a spark, however when you turn the ignition the engine is just flooding and not starting ?

This has pissed me off and made up my mind to punt the car.

Answers on a post card please if anybody has a scooby do what the problem could be!

try taking ya idle control valve off n cleaning it it situated on top ov ya cam cover round barrel wiv an electric plug on end and a rubber band round it,jus pull plug off,n all jus pulls out clean inside it wiv carb cleaner jus squirt in al the holes n jus empty all the black ming out ov it,failing that try cleaning ya throttle housing out, either do ya self or get someone to do it for you depends how mechanically minded you are m8.if you read a post a wrote few weeks ago gives you a whole host ov things to try wether they work depends on wats up wiv ur car m8,tried all sorts on mine now n still does can get expensive wen ya changiong things jus to eliminate one thing n start on summit else.look on thi site its called things to try on mk3 2.08v wen cuttin out,jus sum ov the things ave tried might help you sort it m8,might not gud luck m8

Well picked my car up from the garage today, had the fuel lines bled and cleaned and changed the fuel filter. As I said diagnostics did not show any faults and the coil and sparks were working perfectly well.

The advantages of knowing the mechanic meant that including the tow-in to the garage, work and labour charge came to a pricely sum of £10 which was for the fuel that he put into the car to replace what was drained!

Looks as though I will need to buy him a nice bottle of malt!

No it will be going.

Just test driven a GT TDI year 2000 X plate, 130bhp. 6 Gears and very tasty, only 67k on it. May just bite the bullet. Very tempted.

Just a note folks.

The relay fault does NOT show up on a diagnostic check.

I even took off my ECU and sent it away for a full check - it came back as perfect!
