Warranty bullsh1t!!!
« on: 22 August 2018, 19:59 »
So, broke down on Saturday in the GTD (63 plate but owned for only about 6 months) as the coolant pipe linking in to the heater matrix pretty much severed itself.

Anyway, booked it into my local stealer who assured me that it was likely covered under warranty. As you can imagine VW UK have come back and rejected the warranty claim as 'hoses' arent covered under the used car warranty.

Now, considering that I've had about half a dozen issues with this vehicle since I purchased it but have stuck with VW I'm starting to get a bit peeved with the picking and choosing of what they will cover and what they won't!

What do you guys think? Do I have a leg to stand on here?

So it's just a pipe that's fooked?

That shouldn't be a big cost?  :undecided:

I can see why you aren't happy, I would be miffed too. But, that's the difference between buying new and secondhand unfortunately. You're either going to have to accept it and move on or keep arguing your case and winding yourself up more and likely get no further for it.

Stealer wants £217. But I'd still rather not pay it if I'm honest! Especially since a bloody hose shouldn't be classed as a 'perishable item'. Its not a bloody brake pad or clutch.

Gotta be a manufacturer fault when the coolant pipe on a 4-5 year old car goes pop.

Hoses aren’t covered under the DasWelt Auto used car warranty - have a look under the ‘what is not covered’ section at the link below;

https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/warranty/used-car

And under the ‘what is not covered?’ section on page 12 of your warranty booklet - copy at the link below;

True, if I fight it I'm hoping a bit of loyalty goes for something and gets some kind of good will. I didn't even consider that it wouldn't be covered under warranty as it seemed pretty obvious it would be. Maybe I'm more in shock than anything else.

Plus the used car warranty is supposed to be "as good as a new car warranty" although I am under no illusion that it can't be as good. Just annoyed at the cheek of VW to claim this as perishable.

I do sympathise, you don't seem to have had much luck.

Unfortunately this is something that often tends to be glossed over when they tell you that the second hand car warranty is as good as the new car warranty. Brand new cars come complete with brand new perishable items, whereas second hand cars come with part worn (or sometimes very worn) perishable items. As you haven't had the car very long though, and it appears it isn't the first problem you've had, I would say you may have a case for a good will contribution. Try your dealer principle, or VW customer services.

If you are on Twitter, some negative tweets may provoke a response. Hint.

Thanks for the advice guys. And I've looked at the das welt auto and you're right it does state 'coolant hoses and pipes' in the not covered section. Very specific there.

I'll see what I can get with a bit of loyalty and Twitter shots I might get somewhere a bit better where I am now. Failing that I'll bite the bullet and pay the dollar.

Thanks again!

Sincerely hope you get something out of it but the best thing is you seem more relaxed about it. Sometimes you just need to get things off your chest :smiley:

Slightly over 6 months or slightly under 6 months?  It may well be worth referencing the Consumer Rights Act 2015, if the fault was discovered within 6 months of you taking ownership then it is presumed to have been there since the start unless the dealer can prove otherwise.  If that's the case, the goods aren't of satisfactory quality and the dealer should replace the hose.  The warranty with VW (a third party to the contract in this case) is pretty much irrelevant, it doesn't free the dealer of their obligations.  Of course, IANAL.
