TSI Evo buying advice req’d

Calm down, it’s not me  :grin:

A colleague of mine is looking at getting a Golf 1.4TSI EVO and has messaged me asking for my opinion.
Unfortunately as it isn’t a GTI/D/R it doesn’t register in my radar.

These are two he’s spotted that he’s potentially interested in.

How do they look price wise?


The thing I was wondering was with the current build delays and pre-registering of in stock cars that it might be better to buy a brand new one if the cost was fairly close.
It’s hard to know right now with new car build delays and the mk8 imminent whether now would be a good time to buy something like this or wait until next year when VW are clearing the decks.
But then we have the small issue of Brexit.
How long is a piece of string?

He’s happy to sit it out for a year or so if prices are likely to drop significantly but in my experience with a new model release the prices of recent Golfs tends to firm up if anything. Long build delays and mistrust of new tech from typically conservative Golf drivers.

I agree that the Mk8 won't necessarily push Mk7.5 prices down. There'll definitely be less discount on a Mk8 for the first few months after launch while dealers shift remaining Mk7.5 stock, which they'll start to run down a good few months before.

As for Brexit, who knows how that one is going to pan out? Again, even if it goes as badly as some are predicting, that doesn't necessarily mean that prices will fall. Remember, Golf's are built in der Farterland and VW's accountants price them in €. So if the £ tanks further against the €, that could have the reverse effect, pushing prices up! 

If I were in the market now, and found a good deal on a new car in stock, i'd probably go for that if it qualified for the full VWFS incentives.

I actually ran a configuration on those cars as new builds when I had five minutes spare as I thought they were a bit pricey (but maybe that’d give him room for negotiation on his part exchange Polo).
What surprised me was how dear those boring model Golfs are new!
Nearly £27k new! I’d buy a new Polo or Ibiza personally.
