Climate control in hot weather
« on: 04 July 2018, 13:21 »
I saw this earlier which might be of interest to those with OBD11.

I haven't tried it yet but will do if this warm weather continues.

Cheers

Mine blows icy cold very quickly anyway. Particularly since the ac was serviced a few weeks ago which made a very noticeable difference.

Just turn the aircon profile to high in the menus... If you really need to. I find no problems getting the car cooled down ASAP anyway...

Did that mod to mine years ago and works well to cool the car quickly as per that thread. Well worth doing.

God bless the aircon! I'm more of a windows down kind of driver but not in this weather. In terms of how quickly it gets cold, I went from a "cold" start with the car having been in the sun all morning (it was boiling inside, give or take a degree or two ) to cool air from the vents in 2 minutes and the cabin good and chilled with the fan speed dropping on auto in 5 minutes. Happy with that

I'm more of a windows down kind of guy too Watts but I put mine on yesterday and there was a terrible musty smell. I've been looking at sprays to get rid of the mildew and smell (diagnosed through a few web
searches). Anyone have any recommendations or ones to avoid please?

I've only ever done that the once and it was just a can from Halfords, worked a treat  The GTI though had an aircon service a few weeks back which wasn't much more (a deal when combined with a main service and brake fluid change) and is working great!

I might try the Halfords route as an intermediate step - do you remember if it was one that you set off in the car (a bomb) or one that you spray in the vent under the bonnet? Cheers

You'll be getting a musty smell if you don't use the climate control. Your creating a vicious circle by not using it and potentially extra expense to fix it so why not use it all the time?
