In less than month of having my new car, it seems i have a paintwork fault.  Two blisters have now appeared on the roof. Looks to me like contamination under the paint.  They were obviously not there when I picked it up as I was all over it like, well, an ardent new GTI owner.  :nerd:

Needless to say I'm not a happy chappy!! I'm worried about how they will sort this out and whether this could be something that rears its head again later on; maybe when out of the 3 year paintwork warranty period.

It's just been dropped at the dealers, who are taking more pics and sending them off to VW Warranty etc. To be fair - they were horrifed when I showed it to them, and said they completely understood my concerns about it.

I found a couple of threads where folk have had blisters, but not on a new car I think. Has anyone had a similar experience, as I'd like to know how it was resolved for them? I don't really want patch painting going on on a new car. If this is something under the paint, my gut reaction is that VW should open the order book on a replacement car for me, and I drive this one until that shows up, or they loan me another GTI until then. But i guess they won't entertain this idea readily.

What with this and a sratch repair being needed as I noticed two on pick-up day (different part of car, sorted but some polishing marks to be removed today) and the gaping hole in the bumber cover, which the now supplied cover doesn't fit without trimming, it's really taken the shine off the whole new car experience. Oh, and I appear to have joined the b pillar trim rattle club.

Any experience anyone can share having had a similar paint fault experience would be really appreciated.

I'd look into your rights to reject the car, sounds as though you've had something that should have failed QC!

Do you have any pics of what it looks like?

Our Isaac Blue was pristine when it arrived and then we applied ceramic coating to it.

(emabarrasingly) I don't know how to load up pics....but have read a bit and trying this....ooh; it worked. Unlike VWs QC.

Holy hell   I wouldn't be keen on having any paintwork done on a brand new car due to a manufacturers fault. Personally I'd be looking to reject if at all possible. Hope you get sorted.

UPDATE: and a MAHOOSIVE sigh of relief.....

Been to see it / collect it, and amazingly to everyone who'd seen it; it turned out to be something sitting on the paint. No idea what; Paint guy said it looked like some kind of clear glue or weird non-sticky resin, that despite looking for all the world like the paint itself bubbling up, came off with some cleaning agent.
It now looks unblemished and all as it should be.

I had already shown it to another local bodyshop place, for an 'independent opinon', and he too thought it was under the paint. None of us had wanted to poke it / scrape it etc until VW folk had looked into it. Soooo; thank heavens for that!! Legal team can stand easy!

So, maybe my local birds fly about with glue in their beaks, or the neighbours tree pooped itself due the recent weather, or I'm living in some weird experimental TV 'reality show' and this has all been a grand wind-up?

Is new GTI ownership always like this?
