Problem with Led headlight on mk7.5 GTI
« on: 27 June 2018, 17:08 »
Hi all. Noticed the other day something odd with the drivers side headlight on my mk7.5 GTi.

On standard dipped beam all is good. They don't have the auto Hi/Lo feature but do have the active cornering and auto on. When I switch to high beam via the stalk, all works ok except the beam pattern on the drivers side doesn't look right. It's slightly less intense than the passenger side and approx 10ft directly in front of light unit is a VERY bright 'pool' of light on the road about 3ft in diameter. Had the car since last September and only noticed this change last week. Suggestions like faulty bulb or cheap bulb are out as they are their clever all led jobbies. Popped into Lister's in Coventry ( I know, I know...) and first spoke to one of the technicians in the car park who listened and agreed that doesn't sound right, pop in and get it booked in.

First woman - " It's probably one on the features on the new lights and you just need to get used to the difference"

Me - " I've had the car 10 mths and it's only just started doing it! "

First woman - " Oh thats very odd, let me speak to a colleague..."

Senior service manager " yada yada yada, new leds are different, yada yada, safety feature so you don't blind oncomming cars, yada yada, the're quite a step forward in technology you'll take some time to become acustom to them... are you keeping them clean??? yada yada"

Me - (getting p*ss*d now) " Look MATE, I've had the car 10 mnths and its only just started doing it!. Your Technician outside says it doesn't sound right, It's nothing to do with blinding other cars, that's what the stalk if for !!. So... how about we start this conversation again??"
Service manager - "How old is the car sir..."
Me - "10 months, so under warranty, when can we book it in?????

He left me to book in in with the first woman. First appointment they have is in 10 days time!

So before I enter the battle with VW. What does everyone elses new LED lights look like on high beam??

Thanks in advance.

Definitely a fault. Not right at all. What's wrong though I haven't got a clue. If you want to have a guess, try looking at audi forums because I've not heard of a Vw fault like this yet. Luckily under warranty because I don't doubt it's going to be expensive!

Mine are great on high beam
Do you have the start up dance, if so do both lights look the same then?

Mine are great, had to adjust them a little as I found them set too low. After a tweek they are perfect

Funny you should say that, mine were pointing at the floor when I first got it. A techie must have chinned off part of the PDI

Lol.... exactly the same! Very low from the dealer. Yes. I have the start up dance and all is good. Dipped beam is great no problem there at all. Active cornering is very... err... active! On a country lane its very noticeable. Its only when I switch to high beam, the drivers side beam pattern just seems all wrong. I'll try and get a pic later, it's so obvious it's almost comical the difference between the left and the right light.

The warranty will sort it out, don't worry. Hopefully they'll just swap the unit out

I think everyone needs to take timeout! sh!tty attitude or not he has gone to the sealers with a genuine problem. He has not gone to VW after turning the lights on for the first time. He has owned this car for 10 months and over that period has noticed a change in the headlights. I have led’s and do not have the issue he is talking about.
