I asked my local Carwow guy how the system worked a couple of years ago.
Some of the quotes are from random dealers picked by their system plus you’ll always get your nearest Carwow dealer and the cheapest quote sent through.

The delivery drivers are usually retired guys and they are told to drive very carefully as the last thing the dealer wants is a load of complaints and having to come back and collect the car again.
Obviously the delivery is a significant cost to the dealer so there will quite likely be incentives to collect the car.
Carwow quotes are usually through the retail part of the dealer unlike a lot of brokers that use the fleet side to offer cars at the maximum discount.
It’s always when you have a part Ex that the waters get muddied as this will impact the deal.
A cheap headline offer might result in a low P/X offer and vice versa so it’s always the cost to change that’s significant.
When you have no part Ex then it’ll be hard to beat the likes of Broadspeed when buying a VW but when I got quotes for my son buying a newly released Ibiza FR earlier this year with no P/X, I found Carwow undercut Broadspeed and the cheapest quote was for an actual car that had been built and was in stock.
The sands shift all the time though so it pays to do a decent amount of research on the current best deals.

Drivethedeal.com was usually offering the cheapest price compared to carwow or broadspeed every time I've looked at various cars from different manufacturers as well.

I got my car through carwow though as the dealership were offering a decent price for my old car.

Welcome Dunc, the PP will be a significant upgrade from the mk6, not least of all because your old car sounds like it’s well worn in by now!
That’s quite a mileage to wrack up, has the mk6 suffered many faults in that time?

My Mk6 is a GT TDI 140, and has indeed had some issues in the 9 years / 205 000 miles of ownership. Some within warranty (battery drain issue that they couldn't track down for ages: turned out to be glovebox light switch leading to the light strobing when box shut and car locked :o) and rear dampers).

Out of warranty I've had, ooh let me see........non-consumables include 1 turbo; 1 EGR cooler; 1 a/c compressor; 1 EGR valve; shocks all round; strut top mounts. Still on original clutch and exhaust though!

Consumables over that time are not really surprising, but when I totted it all up out of curiousity last week it included..... 2 batteries, 2 front disc sets and pads; 1 rear set; 1 windscreen. Oh, and .......23 tyres!!

Has been a great long distance car though really, and feel I've had the value out of it.

What's the general view on Carwow? Did they deliver the car to you or did you pick it up? Heard of one internet broker (can't remember which one) delivering a new car where the driver had been smoking in it during the drive and had spilt crisps everywhere...

I'm picking her up from a local dealer, and have dealt with them. As others have said, CW just get you the prices dealers offer, and you can find pre-built cars dealers have available at short notice.

Very impressed with CW, and recommend them. I even had an email today to claim my reward voucher for having bought a car via their service. Only a wee Amazon voucher, but it's a nice thought
