Clubsport MPG.
« on: 07 May 2018, 13:23 »
Just been out for an hour to cool down in the GTI, averaged 42.5 MPG by taking it easy and sticking to the speed limits with the AC set to 20C. Not bad for a stage 1 tuned CS40... Now I'm going to clean the dust from the dash!

Are you sure the map hasn't fooled the computer. It often does.

Yes, after checking it myself from fill to fill and calculating what it actually does...

WTF I've not seen anywhere near 42 - even on my usual sedate commute it struggles to get much over 30...

Really! Mine does over 30 all the time. Even from a cold start doing a short round trip to the local supermarket and back (about 4 miles) I'll always get 30. Usually on a longer run depending on how I drive it will be in the mid 30's and as you saw yesterday I was just seeing what it could do and got up to 42. What's your tank range after a fill?

+1

Can't even imagine mine hitting such high numbers ever, I have to struggle for 28mpg in a normal drive.

That been said, a friend with a Cupra (same engine) was showing me 38-40mpg in his the other day, so I guess there is a way but his car was a manual stock Cupra using start/stop (i have it disabled) getting to 6th gear as soon as possible and barely putting his foot down. Guess it goes to show how diverse consumption can be and that there is maybe not much point in mpg rant (or praise) threads as conditions and driving style can have such a huge impact

Fuel type also helps, supermarket fuels seem to give less MPG than a normal station, and high rated seems better too

I normally fill up after around 300 miles with a range left on the DIS of around 30.

The bulk of my driving is a 40 mile commute E/W with a mix of rural, urban, queuing (with stop-start) but mainly cruising at 60 - 80 on dual/m-way. Mileage is 18,000 so the engine is well run in!

I'm starting to see more (slightly) over 30 average journeys now the weather is getting better, but certainly over winter it was more likely the high 20's.

I used to get slightly better MPG on the same commute with my supercharged 3.0 V6 S4 I owned before the CS (despite the EU tests suggesting the reverse).

I think the gearing doesn't help as most of my driving is at M-way cruise speeds and rpm is around 3000 rpm in 6th - it needs a 7th for cruising!

My Clubsport tends to mostly do shortish runs in light traffic and averages around high twenties.

A couple of weeks ago I did some long distance work including a fair bit of motorway and fast A road driving in light traffic which netted the grand improvement of absolutely zilch.
The car was still recording high 20's.

I'd have to try deliberately to keep mine down in the 20's on any run, it must be the remap making it more efficient. My tank range is always in the region of 400, bit less in the winter but over 400 this time of year...
