Reg plate holes

So I’ve just taken off the plates front and rear to put some more aesthetically pleasing ones and replacing the rear was fine as there’s only two holes centrally located which are covered by the plate but the front has that ghastly plate holder which has five huge holes for plastic pop rivets for the holder. Three are still visible with the new plate on as it’s smaller than the previous one, has anyone bought any plugs to fill the holes or am I better off going to a body shop(££££)?.

Why they have to drill five massive holes in the bumper is beyond me and if I ever buy a brand new car I’ll refuse the car at delivery if they try and drill the car. Seems VW haven’t heard of double sided sticky tape 🙄.

Why don't you simply leave the number plate holder on the front of your car and stick with a standard sized number plate?

Quite simply because i find it to be ugly, the plate holder is pretty unnecessary and the plate was garish and a massive advert for the dealer it came from. Why change anything aesthetically on our cars?

I think that short plates are a matter of personal preference. Me, I'd stick with proper sized ones.

I've asked for the last 5 cars I've bought new now not to have any number plates put on the car but left for me to stick them on with double sided tape for this very reason.

The first dealer an Audi one sent me pictures of the car being PDA's and to my horror you could see the plate screwed on at the front. In every email with him I reminded him not to screw the plates on!!! He had to get it smart repaired before I picked it up which I wasn't happy about but turned out okay.

I'm sure someone on here attempted to get VW not to put the front number plate holder on the bumper but was told it couldnt be done as its part of the car. A bit like asking not to have the rear window spoilers put on.

If the car is black you can get away with putting a smaller plate on the plate surround. but it doesn't look good on any other colour.

My car came with a plate holder at the front but it looks OK to me with no dealer advertising on it.

I simply used good 3M double sided tape to fit my plates front and back.

I have - wheels, lowered, cat back exhaust and yes, number plates - however I stuck to standard sized plates with the OEM plate holder (like the photo posted above). I guess it's all down to personal preference but I think simply sticking a plate to the front bumper without the OEM holder behind it (especially as the plate doesn't fit on the flat bit of the bumper) looks a little bit 'unfinished'. Like I said though, personal preference - if it were legal, I'd not run a front plate at all and pay to get the holes filled in professionally.

Horses for courses i guess! I pondered the thought of just putting the plate on the dashboard but that seems to be a police magnet around here, one of the few things i envy about some American states that don't require front plates.

That will be because ANPR can't read it... which is quite important to them now road tax problems are detected like that...

Front plates? Doesn't seem like many supercar drivers these days bother!

A small front plate looks much better than standard, especially with the big daft plate holder removed. Pain if you've got holes showing but sure can get filled.
