GTI Austin Wheels always made by Ronal
« on: 11 April 2018, 11:53 »
Just bought some 'Genuine' wheels from ebay and paid via paypal for protection.
Looks like they are fake, they have part number and VW logo but states Made in China and no mention of Ronal.
Am i correct that Genuine VW ones would be Ronal?

thanks

Stewart

Thanks for the replies Barrym and SRGTD.
Almost more confused now.
If 5G0601025BD is manufacturer part number then surely they would be marked Ronal.
However the fact that someone in the US has Made In China on the factory wheels is a bit of a surprise.
Looks like i will be pulling off one of my wheels later to check its markings, although that may be of no help at all.
The ones I've bought are to put winter tyres on next year so it is a second set, however and they were priced low due to storage damage and small marks, the one i've looked at so far as described in terms of damage.
Problem is I could get a set of unmarked copies for the same money.
So i've either got a good deal on OEM ones, or a not so good deal on copies, I just don't know which now.
There are still more on Ebay as the seller had more than 10, if anyone wants to look at the add, listed as Genuine.

thanks
Stewart

Most VW parts come from Poland.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

Update on this.
Having spoken with my local VW parts supplier and further research around the web i can confirm the wheels i have are OEM old stock from 2013.
VW  5G0 601 023 AS is the one on the system, it is manufacturered by Ronal and supplier to VW for Europe and other locations worldwide.
VW 5G0 601 023 BD is also on the VW system but no orderable in the UK.
I have identified a manufacturer name on the wheels of Dicastal, i found they are a USA based OEM supplier of wheels to most car suppliers inc VW with manufacturing in China.
This part is OEM across the America's and also Asia but not Europe.
I have checked all 4 wheels and they are unmarked on the outer face with only some minor scuffs on the inside rim so looks like i have got a bargain at £115 per wheel delivered . although i wasn't sure about that earlier today.

cheers
Stewart
