Re-setting Car-Net and Navigation Systems
« on: 10 April 2018, 14:22 »
Hi all, with my new car it seems only a matter of weeks away, a couple of questions have just occurred to me. These questions might also be useful for other owners about to sell or trade in their current cars ?

My current GTD is the first I'd had with VW's car Net system, so it's linked with the car, and I can currently send POI's, new navigation addresses as well as request Vehicle reports from the car. When I trade the car in, how do I "release" the car-net from my ownership (i understand the new owners get the remainder of the 3 years free Guide and Inform plus, and can then extend it optionally at their cost after that), but at the same time break the link to my personal information ?

At the same time, should I be re-setting the Sat Nav back to factory defaults, will this delete any stored POI's and addresses from the Nav system and any personal details ?

You register your car on the VW Car-Net app. This gives you a security code (valid for I think a number of hours) that you enter into the head unit of the car under the Car-net menu.

When you have successfully registered and enabled it in the car, it's a simple matter of heading over to the VW Car-Net site (https://www.volkswagen-car-net.com/portal) and from there you can manage POI's, Navigation addresses, RSS News Feeds etc, as well as request vehicle health reports.

When you next go to the car, enable the WLAN function (I use my mobile in Wireless Hotspot mode to create an internet connection in the car.) Once the connection is made, any new navigation addresses will be downloaded automatically and any new POI's will be available from the On-Line POI drop down in the Navigation screen search field. If you had previously requested a Vehicle Health report, this will be automatically uploaded to your Car-Net Portal and will be available the next time you log in.

Just a point of note in case you are thinking of doing this, as of now (14.45pm 10/4/18) the VW Car-Net Portal is down for maintenance.
